Unsure of when to do first dance or toast at reception

Cj Wallace, on May 21, 2019 at 4:24 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
My FH and I are having a cocktail hour (time to take pics) and plated dinner reception. I'm torn if we should mingle during dinner and then kickoff the reception with first dance and toasts. Im interested in what others have done or are doing in a similar situation. Thoughts?

We are doing the toast during the plated dinner which is right after we take pictures. The first dance will occur after dinner.

We had about a 45 minute "cocktail hour" before the reception technically started. When we did our grand entrance, was also when we did our first dance. Ours was a buffet but we were served plated first so we could eat first - so we ate and then mingled while other tables ate. After that we did toasts and then parent dances & cake cutting.

I’ve always seen toasts during dinner between courses. We did dances after dinner to open the dance floor but that’s a personal preference.

We decided to do the toast at the end of Dinner, followed by the first dance, father- daughter dance, mother- son dance.... Then we will kick the reception into play about 30 -45 minutes after we will do cake cutting, removal of the garter, flower/ garter toss.. and then turn up til we can't no more. We figured we wouold do our dances while everyone was eating that way they are already seated and right after we could get the party started

We have a lot of time so this may change, but right now the plan is to do the toasts to open the reception so before dinner. Eat dinner, we will cut the cake while everyone is still sitting. Then first dance then open dance floor.

I know a lot of people wait to do cake later, but I don't want people who maybe don't want to stay the whole time to feel like they are waiting for the cake to be cut. But this may change.

We are doing our first dance immediately after being introduced into the reception. After that we are doing our parents dances then dinner will be served. Toasts will occur a little while into the dinner hour so people have time to eat and talk with their table but then they can also finish eating while toasts are being said before the dancing begins.
