I
Dedicated August 2015

Unresponsive Photographer

I knew I wanted this guy before we got engaged, he did my friend's DW a few years ago and does amazing work. Every time I reach out to him it takes him a few weeks to answer. I'm growing concerned bc the last time we talked, I was seeking HIS opinion on a new timeline and I had to correct him at least 6 times that my time had changed (and it was outlined in my e-mail, and the subject title!). He was just all over the place and still hasn't sent a contract. So here we are another few weeks later, no contract, nothing. Bad sign? At what point do I move on? Another friend had said she was going to hire him for her wedding but didn't. I'm wondering if she had a bad feeling too...

Side note: last time we talked he told me he had a lot of personal stuff going on, which I can understand, yet he posts all the fun stuff he's doing on social media.

What do you think?

I would be hesitant to use him. There are plenty of gifted photographers out there. I was speaking to a few that I really loved. One got back to me within a few hours, the other a few days. For my sanity I had to go with the one who communicated better. In this day and age there's just not much excuse for not communicating in a timely manner.

I'd definitely drop him, UNLESS your wedding is super far away (talking Fall 2016 or later). In that case, he might be prioritizing.

BUT if you don't get a contract within the month, I'd move on either way.

Don't book him! If he's not replying to you now when you haven't even paid your deposit, how responsive do you think he'll be right before your wedding? I cannot, NOT, tolerate flaky vendors. It makes my blood pressure go through the roof. Good communication is something that ALL professional vendors should display. I'm very skeptical of vendors who won't return phone calls or emails. How do they stay in business?!

Honestly, I would move on. He may do amazing work but.... none of that matters if he doesn't show up!! He never even sent you a contract?? I would run!
