Unreliable Bridesmaid

infectiouslaugh, on October 24, 2008 at 9:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

When I got engaged I told my best friend and she was excited for me. She showed a lot of interest and cared and so I made her a maid of honor. She helped me get wedding ideas and still had time for school and her boyfriend. She has a new boyfriend now and barely calls or wants to hang out. I can't even get her to go get coffee. When I mention her helping out with the wedding, she either doesn't reply or is too busy. Should I tell her that she can't be in the wedding anymore since she doesn't seem to have any time?

I had this situation recently... best thing to do is when you're talking to her (no v/m or email) let her know what you expect her help with, and ask if she could do that,... if she says no, ask her if she even still wants to be a part of the wedding. if she's never been a part of a wedding before she may not know what it all intails

I can see your frustration, but we often forget the real reason for having bridesmaids and maid of honors. We shouldn't have them so we can have extra hands and brains for our weddings. Its great if they want to help, but we shouldn't "expect" them do be there for us hand and foot cause they are in our wedding. There are brides that don't have any bridal party at all, and manage to do it all just fine. So I guess what I am trying to say is, no you shouldn't dimiss someone just cause they can't make time for you whenever you want them to, that would seem very shallow. I would assume and hope that you picked her to be your MOH because she was your best friend and meant a lot to you if she would stand next to you and witness your marriage, and not so much because she was helpful at first. I had an MOH and 2 bridesmaids, never expected anything from them other than to be there, and it all worked out great!

Thanks for the advice. I've pretty much just let it go and I'm checking into wedding coordinators.
