Unreasonable to ask the flower girl to wear our wedding colors?

on January 12, 2020 at 2:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
So our flower girl (E) will be 4 at the time of the wedding, and she's the daughter of a groomsman (C) both I and future hubby consider a brother. I want E to wear a dress in one of our 4 wedding colors and for her dad C to pick the exact style. I thought this was reasonable considering I don't want to micromanage and because C doesn't have a ton of money right now. FH thinks it would be going too bridezilla to ask her to wear one of our wedding colors...am I being unreasonable?

I don’t think that’s unreasonable at all. Will your colors be easy to find? What does your FH think you should do instead? Would it be possible for you two to cover the cost of her dress?

I don't think that's unreasonable! There are a lot of options on Amazon and even at department stores. What are your colors? Are they difficult to find?

Its not unreasonable at all. If it weren't wedding colors what would it be?

Heck no that’s not unreasonable you are just simply asking the dad to buy a dress of a color. He can pick the style & price.

I don’t think that’s unreasonable at all, what else would she wear?

I think as long as it isn't too challenging to find the colors its fine. I think this is what is commonly done.
When my daughter was a flower girl I was told I could get a blush dress to match the bridesmaids or ivory to match the bride. I had lots of options with those two colours and found something for under $30.

Totally OK and very common, I bet she'll love matching the grown-ups.

Not at all. My mother-in-law made our flower girls' dresses, but I picked the pattern. It is very common. If you have the budget, could you pay for it? Amazon has really nice ones that aren't very expensive.

I told our flower girl’s mom that she could choose the dress, but I’d like it to be blush. She wore a blush dress from kohl’s that was on sale for $15. She looked beautiful and elegant and it was very inexpensive.

Uh... what? No. Not unreasonable at all. I purchased my ring bearers and flower girls attire myself so that I knew they would be wearing exactly what I wanted. [That's not necessary.]

That's not unreasonable at all. If she's your flower girl she should match the rest of your bridal party; especially in color.

Thanks folks. I'm glad it's not just me! The colors are super easy to find (I think)...sky blue, blush pink, lavender, or pine tree green. The wedding is in April so we can probably find something on an Easter sale. Should I offer to pay if it's her dad choosing the style, or just if I pick one specific dress? I don't want to come across as patronizing even though his budget is tight right now.

I think you aren't obligated to pay. If he asks, you can discuss it.

Offering to pay is nice and I don't think it's patronizing at all. You don't need to, and those colours will be really easy to find, but especially if he is already paying for his outfit I think it would be appreciated. Ultimately, it's up to you.

Thanks ladies. I'm glad it's not just me. I'll give C the colors and ask if he'd rather I pick out the dress (to save him time and headache) or if he'd like me to. Thank you so much!
