Unity symbol at ceremony- nontraditional

Angie, on May 26, 2015 at 9:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Hey ladies!

I am looking for something different than the candle lighting or sand for the unity symbol at the ceremony. Anyone do anything or have something nontraditional planned? I want it to be something fun and lighthearted.

FH saw something about making a drink together or taking a shot and is pushing hard. Definitely think it would be funny and get the shock factor, but feels a little trashy.

Any thoughts?

I've seen a few couples do a wine mixing for the unity ceremony and one couple do a unity ceremony with chocolate.

I've done tequila sharings, chocolate sharings, paint pourings, hand tracings and that tree thing.

If you email me, I can send you the script for the tequila sharing; that's a big hit this year....

We are planting a tree and mixing soil from both of our hometowns. Not as fun as tequila though! Smiley smile Making a signature drink together would be fun!

I hope to do the tree thing. What are your shared hobbies? There might be something you can do to incorporate one of those.

We're doing a whiskey barrel ceremony. Our officiant (my stepdad) is saying something like "these unaged spirits represent your individual lives and this new barrel, these spirits will no longer exist individually, but will be joined and cannot be separated agIn" or something similar. It started as a ha-ha moment because we love whiskey but the wording my stepdad has for it actually makes it really sweet.

Eta: whiskey ceremony, it's pouring of unaged whiskey from two separate glasses into a mini barrel (that's personalized actually). It'll actually age in the barrel and in 6 months should be awesome whiskey.

We're doing the "unity in glass" option. It's expensive but we get a hand blown vase out of it!

We're doing a tree with the soil from our parents and grandparents homes- where we both spent our time as kids. When we get our first house (hopefully soon!) we will plant that tree in our yard.

They share it with each other and I talk about exploration....how life is sometimes dark, sometimes sweet, but always nutty....

I'm doing a whiskey barrel ceremony and was wondering what the officiant said. My officiant had never done anything like this and isn't sure of wording so I was wondering if I could maybe get some ideas please
