Unity Sand Ceremony Tips

Natania, on January 6, 2012 at 6:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I've seen a lot of people rolling up a piece of paper to use like a funnel. Sometimes its like a music sheet but I still dont like the look of it. Does anybody know if it really is that hard to pour it with out making a huge mess? I dont care if a few grains slip away.

ALSO I dont really have a big significance to the ceremony. Like no blended family thing I just really like the idea of it being something we can put in our house to remind us of our day. Any tips on what should be said during/before we do the sand ceremony?

I think if the glass vases are smaller than the main vase you shouldn't have too much of an issue. I don't think I've ever been to a wedding where they used something to funnel in the sand...they may have done this to give a cool effect to the sand to better layer it??

I saw a set where the starter vases were shaped like hearts which looked like it could be easier to pour as you have a built in spout for the sand to pour from.

If it is outside the sand gets moisturized and is hard to pour so try to keep something to stir it with so it is not clumpy but nothing else really expect Cydney is right with the heart shape witha spout ... that does work... =]

We are using these pourers that have a thing where you pour from (the little triangle, spout, helps guide the stuff you are pouring thing that I can't think of what to call it). They sell them at Hobby Lobby for pretty cheap.

Most of my couples use a 'family' vessel that is wider at the top than the vases, so there is no need for a funnel. If you email me at *****@***********.***, I will send you my script.

Our heart shaped vase was big enough that we didn't need a funnel. We just made sure to pour really slow..and it worked out fine

My fiance wants to use "real" sand are there issues with using real sand? like the real sand as the tan color and using the fake stuff as the white contrasting color?

They've also got a bunch of wording for the sand ceremonies listed here:
