Unity Communion

Barklarich, on November 15, 2014 at 9:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

I've been racking my brain trying to think of something unique and also have strong Christian overtones. I would like to know what y'all think.

Alright check it.

There are 3 glasses. Two of them are a quarter filled with wine (or grape juice, I haven't decided) I take my glass and pour it in the bigger glass. He takes his glass and pours it in the same bigger glass. Minister talks a bit about Jesus saying "This is my blood covenant...." We drink from the same big glass.

It's interesting, except what do the two separate glasses represent on their own? Ultimately, taking the communion together symbolizes your commitment to Jesus. I'm not sure separating the juice beforehand adds much.

That said, if you want to do some kind of unity ceremony around Christ, you could do a Unity Cross ceremony. I don't know the details of it, but it's apparently popular. You could also do what we did with our sand ceremony and include a third color to represent God and have your pastor pour it as the two of you are pouring yours.

EDIT: Here's info on the Unity Cross ceremony http://www.reynoldstreasures.com/christian-wedding-unity-cross-wedding-ceremony/

If you're getting married in the church, why don't you do a traditional communion?

I've done that God's knot thing several times too.

Perhaps your minister would allow the 2 of you to give communion to each other. I was a participant at an Easter sunrise service where it was not practical for the minister to come around to everyone, so the wafers were passed.
