Unity Ceremony

Our original wedding date was 8/8/20, but with Covid we had to postpone the Catholic church ceremony and the big reception. We decided to do a civil ceremony on our original date, and I’m actually more excited about it than our future events! That being said, I want to make our civil ceremony everything a Catholic wedding can’t be or isn’t (ie fun processional song with lyrics, shorter dress, unique unity ceremony). I’m looking for something out of the box for a unity ceremony. I’ve seen the mixing of objects and liquids, the cross, and the ones tied to a specific culture, but I feel like there has to be something more unique! I would love to hear some suggestions ☺️ Thank you!

A couple ideas I've seen online: peanut butter and jelly sandwich or make a mixed drink

I’ve seen where couples have made a painting. Blank canvas, a few paint colors and either pour it on the canvas or paint brushes.

I really wanted to do a unity glass and get a vase made, but it's pretty expensive and not a priority for us. We have two kids, so we're thinking about doing a candy unity ceremony and all four of us will pour our favorite candies into the candy jar. There's a candy shop where we're getting married that has all kinds of retro candies, as long as the kids don't go too crazy picking. I like the idea of doing a joint painting too, but my FH would have no interest.

I also considered sealing notes to each other and a bottle of wine in a box for our first anniversary, maybe even asking our guests to write us short notes too.

What interests do the two of you share? Maybe we can help you come up with something unique and specific to you.

We married in Hawaii so we did a lei exchange, kind of like you’re now part of me and I’m part of you. We also did a water ceremony, so our officiant blessed the water and poured it into two cups that we drank from. Not necessarily unity, but ideas for you!

I’ve seen unity plants, trees or bonsai trees where the couple either plants the seed together bringing their own soil or separate watering cans.
