Unity ceremony

Katie, on July 23, 2019 at 5:17 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 15
I am wanting to do something cool for a unity ceremony separate from the candle or
lasso. Any unique ideas out there? I really like foot washing but don’t know if my
FH will be as excited about it.

My friends poured their two wedding colors together on a canvas and made like drip art with it! Very cute and a symbol of their lives mixing together.

We are doing a sand ceremony. Take 2 colors of sand and pour it into an hourglass, every anniversary you turn the hourglass so the sand mixes.

We are doing a Unity Cross! It has a beautiful little story behind it and they’re something you can have in your home forever! They’re on the unity cross website or at Hobby Lobby!

We are doing a wine box.
After we are pronounced husband and wife we will do a german tradition of completing our first task as husband and wife. That task will be sawing a birch log in half infront of everyone.
We will later split the wood and decorate the fireplace with it.

You can do stuff based on your culture! We’re including a blanket ceremony from my Navajo tribe for the unity as well. I didn’t want the candles and all either so I thought I could include my heritage.

We are doing a handfasting ceremony! We have 6 colored cords with each color representing something to bring to the marriage. Our wedding party will drape them over our hands, my Matron of honor will tie them in a knot, then we say our vows before taking the cords off!

I would love to do a Unity Cross, but I haven't decided yet. When my cousin got married, they planted a tree and used dirt from both of their homes where they grew up/are from. It was very unique and matched their personality really well.

At my cousin's wedding last summer, they did a wine mixing. His partner was from California and he was from Ohio. They mixed 2 bottles of red, one from their respective home town/state and passed the glass between the family members.

For ours, we are employing the use of a quaich, which is a shallow, 2 handled cup. Also called a "love cup" or "friendship cup." Will probably have mead in it (I'm a beekeeper and keeping with a lot of (waaay) older traditions) and we'll share it at the ceremony.

Doing the candle lighting, sand blending etc is so "over done" in my opinion (kinda like burlap). No disrespect to those who are doing/using/incorporating these items in their own ceremonies.

Everything about our wedding is different.

My uncle made us this custom unity cross for our wedding ceremony! I love that we will have something so personal to put in our home and it's something that no one else will have. I love the story behind the unity cross as well since we're having a religious ceremony and the church has been such an important aspect in building our relationship.
