Unity Candle OUTSIDE

Mrs. Jacques, on April 26, 2010 at 11:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

I am worried with our ceremony being outside we will have an issue with our candles staying lit. Does anyone know where to find a hurricane glass thats straight like a cylinder- bottomless? Thanks

You could always do unity sand as an alternative to a unity candle. Just an idea!

Great idea. Unfortunately I already have my personalized unity candle, so I need to find a globe to go around it. I have looked everywhere all I am finding is cylinder vases. I really need a bottomless cylinder.

I know they are kind of pricey but that's all I could find. Hope that helps! Smiley smile

Have you tried JoAnn Fabrics or AC Moore they are both craft stores and have a lot of these types of things!

@Christine P- I have looked at Michaels, JaAnns, Ben Franklins Walmart, Christmas Tree Shop and all over the net LOL.

@jlam- Thanks a bunch. I didn't realize how tough it would be to find these. I did find these but I was hoping to find different sizes. My unity candle will need at least a 4" cylinder and my family candles will need at least a 3" cylinder. I suppose I could have them all the same size if I have to but I think it would look better with the appreciate size on each candle. http://www.save-on-crafts.com/glcycash10in.html

Even if the candles are in globes, the wind can still blow them out. I always discourage my couples from doing anything with candles outside. There is also the chance of a breeze blowing a spark, and igniting something.

I encourage my couples to do a Sand Ceremony instead, or a Handfasting. If they still want to do the Unity Candle, we can do it just before the cutting of the cake indoors. It actually photographs very nicely on the cake table because the cake is in the background, uncut and pretty!

I went to a wedding and the candles did not stay lit. The couple went through the motion, and the preacher made a quick statement stating its the symbol of what they are doing that counts, not the fact the candles blew out. Smiley smile I'm having an outside wedding, and if they blow out...they blow out... but the candle cylinder is a good idea! Smiley laugh
