Unity Candle Ceremony

Tabitha, on May 5, 2023 at 1:06 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 3

I am getting married October 21st 2023. We am thinking about doing the unity candle during our Ceremony. But we are thinking we would want our best friends to light the taper candles and then my mother and fiance's aunt to light the actual unity candle. I am wondering if anyone has done this before and what wording they used for this ceremony. Thanks so much!

I'm a bit confused, usually it's the couple who light the big candle since it's supposed to represent the two of you becoming one unit.

Yes I know that. We are also doing the sand ceremony. We wanted to try and incorporate something different for both our bestfriends and mother and his aunt to be apart of. I thought maybe the unity candle. Our best friends lighing the tapers. And my mother and his aunt lighting the unity candle together joining our families together and showing that they fully support us. Seeing if anyone else has done this ceremony differently like this

I like the idea of showing that you are bringing your two families together -- not just the two of you. A total side note, but I once saw a unity candle ceremony that was kind of creepy. Once the couple lit the pillar candle, the groom blew his candle out and then blew the bride's candle out. I did not love the symbolism of that.
