United warning

Krista, on April 1, 2020 at 5:33 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9
Just want to warn other brides out there to think twice before booking a united flight! We are being charged a 400 dollar cancellation fee because we had to cancel our honeymoon because all the resorts are closed and we are in a mandated shelter in place/quarantine! I hope all of this passes, but life and things happen outside of covid, so just sayin you might want to find a different airline for your future travels! Best of luck to everyone managing so much in this difficult time!

Oh no! So sorry to hear that. When we’re you supposed to leave? I’ve been reading that the best thing to do for booked flights is to wait for the airline to cancel so they have to give you a refund. If you cancel before them, you can only get a credit.

Definitely! Unfortunately, you would’ve had to wait about 72 hrs before your trip date and you could’ve gotten a full refund.

That’s not their policy at all, despite what the header on the website says. In fact, it only takes about a cursory glance at their actual cancellation policy to learn that. Appreciate your “devotion”to united airlines PR campaign as opposed to researched commentary. I’m glad what you’ve “been reading” supercedes what they’ve told me directly after hours on hold with them. Thanks, Lisa!

I definitely didn’t intend to upset you. I’m not devoted to United in any way. I actually use Southwest for most of my flights. I recently booked a trip through United for my makeup artist due to flight scheduling and read up on their policy. I may have misunderstood it though so I’ll double check. Hope things get better for you!

Sorry it’s been a tense day and I don’t want anyone to be in the same place I am in! I also don’t want anyone to have to wait and still get nowhere!

Oh, no.....our flights for our honeymoon are on United. Granted it's for June, but is definitely a concern and more so now after hearing your experience. Not really thrilled with having to potentially wait until the last minute to have to cancel our honeymoon just so we don't get slammed with cancellation fees. And I doubt it's something our trip insurance that we've had since before the pandemic would cover.
