Unique

How are you making your wedding unique? I have a friend who is getting married one week before me and as terrible as it sounds, I’d like to make our wedding stand out so that it doesn’t seem like the two weeks blend together! Thanks!

Something we are doing to make our wedding unique is having the guests ring little bells as we exit the ceremony space! We are getting married in March, and it will be dark by the time we exit the reception space, so we are doing that fun exit for the ceremony instead. We are also doing a farewell dance at the reception. This was something our DJ suggested. We are going on a cruise for our honeymoon so we will be doing a conga line to "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys.

We weren't necessarily worried about our wedding being unique, most weddings are pretty similar, but we wanted it to be very "us." Small touches like personalized menus at each place setting, signature cocktails with some of our favorite liquors, playing songs that had meaning to us and our friends and family.

Our wedding is fairly unique, but specific to us. Our theme is Renaissance festival / Celtic since we go to the Renaissance festival multiple times in the season (we even got engaged there) and my fiance is Scottish. So, there will be kilts, I'll be dressed like a somewhat modern princess from the Renaissance period, we'll have a bagpiper for our ceremony, and the decor will be mostly handmade (me and my dad are artists).
If you want to stand out just pick a more unique theme that isn't easily found on Pinterest. Anything that is special to you and your fiance will likely not be as typical. Just know it'll be more work to find everything and could cost more if you can't make the items yourselves. What are some things more special to you?

My FH's cousin's wedding is the Friday after ours so I understand! I think the music we chose really speaks to us as a couple, we're having a photo booth, my cousin is our officiant and added personal touches to our ceremony. Don't worry about it too much though, both weddings will be beautiful!

The events at weddings are usually very similar. Eat, drink, and dancing. What I think makes wedding unique are choices couples make in those categories. For example, we did a Southwestern buffet with an open bar because that was important. We had little "The Office" references, gourmet cupcakes such as "Hard Cider & Donuts."

We had a lot of personal touches at our wedding. Our ceremony was completely personalized and we said our own vows, we did our own programs, welcome bags & pamphlets, menus, favors, etc. We had personal decor with pictures of us, we took dance lessons for our first dance, etc.

It doesn’t sound terrible !!! I totally get it !! Hmm maybe add a little extra to your ceremony - make it more personable - like PP said they have bells, you can always incorporate something special into yours !

Make it as much about you two, as a couple, as possible.

That's what DH and I did. We may have used the DJ our friends did, but we had our own playlist. Personal vows ALWAYS make things unique, even if you are influenced by your circle. If you end up with a theme, make it your favorite thing. (DH and I ended up with a Phillies themed wedding. Our officiant, a friend, even referenced the invitations in his sermon, as Extremely Us.) Table numbers, colors, paper goods, all of these things can be tweaked to reflect you.
