Unfortunately WR: Walking pneumonia?

Jenna, on September 23, 2016 at 10:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Uggggggh. As you can see, it's now less than a month (!) until my wedding. My FH has always had ridiculous, nonsensical health problems whenever he gets sick, and he's been miserable all Summer, with repeated bouts of gout alternating with colds. Then the cold turned into a respiratory infection, then he started choking randomly, then he was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. He was given stronger antibiotics, but refused the chest x-ray because "I don't want to find out I have tumors before my wedding." (This is the thought process I've been up against for years) He just texted me with "guess I'm going to set up a chest x ray," which must mean he's feeling worse. Is a chest x ray going to lead to any kind of treatment that will help get this thing gone in the next three weeks? And of course he hasn't taken any time off from work because he's in charge and can't even go a few hours of his days off without getting calls, so "stay home and rest" isn't working, either.

I had full blown pneumonia, and once I was on anti-biotics and an inhaler it was gone in a week and a half, maybe 2 at most. So long as he gets treated and follows doctor's orders, he should be alright.

Take a (non-political, I swear!) lesson from Hillary Clinton: get the meds and force him to stay home and rest for a few days. Walking pneumonia is going around this year, and R&R is the only way to get better. If he follows the doctor's instructions he should be recovered by your wedding day.

He did have an inhaler at one point but he convinced himself it was making him worse. On the plus side, he suddenly got really interested in making soup this week so that's been good for forcing extra fluids.

I had really bad walking pneumonia last year. He needs to take the meds and use the inhaler. The inhaler will open up the air ways which in the short term will cause more coughing but that is also how to clear the lungs. After a couple of weeks of not getting better (and a couple of bruised ribs), the doctor wanted me to take a long leisurely walk (with my inhaler). The increased blood flow combined with the inhaler made me feel much better.

Thanks, Dot, I just let him know that. Doesn't mean he'll listen, but I appreciate it.

Hey Jenna, have you tried, "Listen-- I am not keen to hitch my future to an idiot who won't follow doctor's orders! Get your butt in bed and get well and show me that you'll take care of the person most important to me-- you!"? Might knock some sense into him.

My FH just had walking pneumonia and I've heard of several other people having it as well. It must really be going around! My FH was given an inhaler and told that he may still have symptoms for a month. After about 2 weeks of the inhaler he was looking and sounding much better, but still not feeling 100%. With any luck, the medicines will help!

I guess he just talked with the doctor again and they aren't going to do the chest x ray after all, because he sounds better and the antibiotics stay in your system a while so they're still working on the infection, so it's normal to still be coughing. I'll see if I can push him about walking more, though....

I had it about 6 weeks ago.

Antibiotics, worked from home, took it easy and it was gone in about two weeks.

When I have pneumonia (yup, I've had it several times), I have found that a breathing treatment (nebulizer?) was a sign that I was SICK, but it works. He will probably feel like he had the crud for 4-6 weeks, but, if he takes his meds, it should not interfere with the fun of your wedding. I hope and pray it's nothing else. Post an update once you know!

ETA: Im not a doctor. This is not medical advice! Smiley winking

I had full blown pneumonia and they only found out from chest X-rays. They have my anti biotic a and I was back at work in 2 days! I only took off work one day to go to the emergency care place and was off for 2 days!
