Uneven Numbers. Bridal party and Groomsman

Megan Thompson, on February 15, 2021 at 11:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13
I'm trying to figure out what to do because it looks as though our party numbers will be uneven. I think I'm going to end up with one more lady on my side then he has men. So I'm not sure how to work out the ceremony when they all go down the isle since that would leave one bridesmaid with out an escort. We do have our oldest daughter as my maid of honor, my youngest as our flower girl and our son is the ring bearer so I thought maybe the three of them could go together in a small group, maybe with her slighty behind them. I'm open to any suggestions or letting me know what you think of the three kiddos going together.

The kids together sounds fine! You could also have the last guy escort two ladies. I have one more groomsman than bridesmaids, so I plan to have two of the guys walk with one girl

Most of the time, bridesmaids enter without an escort. It's usually only after the ceremony is over and they are walking out that they pair up. In the case of an extra bridesmaid, one groomsman would escort 2 ladies. Very common.

Typically the maid of honor is the last bridesmaid to enter. Then any flowergirl/ringbearer will enter together. Then you the bride and whoever is escorting you.

This will be covered during the rehearsal.

Most often, the guys don't come down the aisle with the women, they wait with the groom lower side front. And only pair off going back up the aisle. ( with FOB seated with wife, B and groom together, and pairs or singles behind them. But whether the groom's side come down the aisle or not, sides do not have to be even. Even if they are, with men sometimes on the bride's side, and women sometimes on the groom's, people can easily end up 5 men 3 women or other mix, even when 4 are on each side. And if you start even, often 1 person drops out, and still the bridal party are uneven. So people are used to it not being all pairs. Remember, these are not couples, and you do not need male female pairs. Like a graduation, 2 men can walk up the aisle together, or 2 women, or a man and a woman. And singles are ok. Wait til closer to the rehearsal to decide something that could change. It is only children who should not walk back alone. And sometimes a little one will not wait at the altar, but will seek out mom and dad after walking down the aisle, or when FOB sits down. Whether you plan it or not. Just plan this later. First, make it to the wedding without anyone dropping out or being sick.

Amen! We’re having an issue with one of my bridesmaids- we’re not sure she’ll make it. Not because she doesn’t want to but she’s going to start chemo soon & she might be too sick...

Oh no. Having a good friend so sick makes it hard to consider wedding things. Just that she will still be around. ... But if Covod has taught people anything it is that it is more difficult to do things over and over. And planning further in advance than necessary leads to that.
Wedding week, when you are sure where you are and who is coming, decide order of walking.

I agree with Rebelle. 1 groomsman can escort 2 bridesmaids.

Everyone can walk separately, which I personally prefer. If you really want the girls to have an escort, just have the last entering groomsman escort both bridesmaids, one on each arm.

We have 4 bridesmaids and 5 groomsmen. They're gonna walk individually in and out.

That works as well! So it sounds like we have many options and this is certainly nothing to stress about.
