Undergarment suggestions

Jill, on September 5, 2020 at 1:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Hello! I'm looking for some suggestions for great brands and types of undergarments for my dress. I have my first fitting at DB scheduled for a week from now. I've seen it's recommended to wear exactly what you plan to wear for your wedding day and I just have no idea what that would be. I'm sure they will have some garments for me to try while I'm there, I'd just like some options so I don't overspend at DB when I could have gotten something just as good, cheaper, somewhere else.

I don't normally wear any shape-wear but I'm certainly open to it. I'm not overly busty but I would like them to have some support - should I look more for a good strapless bra, a bustier, or have them sew in cups? Overall the dress fit like a glove at the store, so I don't expect to need too many alterations other than hem and bustle, but I guess we'll see.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

So I have pretty much that same dress from DB. I am going to a different alterations person today actually but basically I am getting cups sewn in and for shape wear I went to shaperment just to buy basically some spanx type undergarment for smoothing that are also shorts so I do not chafe.

Beautiful dress! I love that it has pockets! I decided to go with a bustier versus a strapless bra because my dress has a lower back and it just worked better. My mom actually drew on my back where the dress came to before we went shopping lol. I did end up getting my bustier from David bridal, I tried their plain one on in store and ordered the same size and brand only the lace version online. I decided not to go with cups on the dress because I’m already a DD and when the seamstress showed me how it would look on me I felt really self conscious about the amount of cleavage showing. I’m not particularly modest, but thinking about both of our families there made me not want to go “the cup overfloweth” route (as my bff would say).
It doesn’t look like you even need shape wear, you look stunning!

You could just have them seen in cups and with that dress you probably don’t need much shape wear. Go to Kohl’s and look at there stuff. It’s way cheaper.

Check out Shapermint and Honeylove. They carry strapless bras as well.

Cups aren't designed for support so much as padding so your nipples aren't on display. They don't work for many women who need a bra or breast lift of some sort.

From what I can see you don't need a bra of any kind. I got seamless panties from Victoria secret that lay flat for the most part. I'm not wearing a bra with my dress and it feels better that way. Also remember a bra will add inches to your chest so be sure to pick out a bra or no bra prior to your fitting.

Thank you, I will have to check out shaperment, i've never heard of that before. Shorts to avoid chafing is genius! I need to remember to look into that!

Thanks! The pockets were the icing on the cake, all dresses should have pockets! haha

I love that your mom drew your dress line on your back, that is such a smart way to shop! I'll definitely keep that trick in mind. I'm a DD as well and had the same concerns, I will definitely need to try on a bustier, I would have thought cups would have provided more modesty. Hopefully the person at my fitting can show me the difference like they did for you.

Thanks for the advice, Sabrina! In the photo i'm actually wearing some sort of support thing, I think it's a busiter, that they had me put on at DB for shopping. I did like the support it gave though and will definitely try to have made a decision about undergarments before I get to the fitting!

Yeah I saw that when I was looking up ways to keep fresh and less sweaty the day of and some place recommended bicycle shorts or something so I bought the kind of shape underwear that are also like boy shorts too. Smiley smile Girl just standing in the dress, indoors but not very cold, I was sweating in the dress ha ha and I was just standing so she could pin my dress ha ha. I am doing tons of research on the best thing to do. Shapermint is always having sales and I tried on the shape wear and it is nice. I am also going to wear on or honeymoon for some of the dresses I bought to smooth out my hips and cellulite ha ha.

Haha I'm sure i'll be sweating too - not to mention all the extra nerves the day of! Oh boy!

Oh my gosh I hadn't even thought of reusing shapeware for honeymoon attire haha I love that idea though.
