Underarm scratching (beading, sequins, etc.)

Robin, on August 19, 2013 at 6:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hey ladies! So, last night I tried on my dress again (I keep doing that) with my mom, and she wondered if the beading and sequins on top of my dress were going to bother the underside of my biceps through the day. I haven't worn the dress long enough to have even thought of this, but now I'm worried. Have any of you heard any tips or tricks to keep the skin from getting scratched up or red and raw or even just sore? Google doesn't seem to be very helpful on this one.

What about a body glide product that runners use to prevent chafing?

Chafing is different from something scratching you the runners glide won't help with that. If it really bothers you I would have them take off the sequins/embellishments at the underarm area since no one will see them anyways.

I had a beaded bodice. It didn't bother me once, honestly. Never even thought about it.

I had one dress that bothered me but another one that didn't bother me.

I would remove some of the sequins if they bother you.

I had a beaded dress like this once, I didn't find any solution other than to be conscious of not touching my arms to my dress! It was a little awkward.

I tried on several dresses like this and had a lot of problems, but I have very sensitive skin.

The lady at the dress shop told me that most people stop noticing it after 20 minutes... I'm not sure if that is true or not as I had red patches that didnt' go away for hours after trying on dresses but she swore it was true.

I got a dress with no lace or beads on the bodice - that's how I solved it.

Being in dancing competitions all my life every costume had sequence and would irritate the insides of my arms, one costume even made me bleed! well your dress wont do that lol. to be honest you will be dancing and walking around saying hi to everyone that you will be too distracted to notice. try baby powder if it really starts to bother you.

LOL. I think if you have bigger boobies this tends to be an issue. That's actually the biggest reason that I made sure to NOT get a dress with beading on the bodice. I don't think there's an easy solution.

In all my years of dancing, we never found a solution to this problem Smiley sad just make sure you have well lotioned arms and put baby powder on too (just be careful to avoid discoloration with the baby powder causing a white patch on your arm).

I have TERRIBLE skin and with all of my dance costumes that only thing that even comes remotely close to helping is just a lot of baby powder and lotion/vaseline. Some costumes I was able to remove some of the sequins/beads... maybe an alterations person would be able to remove the bothersome pieces.... I would try the runners stuff too.... I may try it for the performances that are coming up!

That happened to me with a NYE dress one year and it was very irritating. Luckily it was NYE and by the end of the night I was not noticing as much. Ironically I had a shirt on yesterday from H&M that has sequins on it and I had this very problem. It was driving me CRAZY and for sure did not get better as the day went on. If you are very sensitive I may take that under consideration.
