Unconventional Father/daughter Dances

Kaitlyn, on June 8, 2019 at 1:06 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
I’ve been mulling over options for the father/daughter dance and honestly a lot of the suggestions I’ve seen have romantic undertones that I find strange for a familial song.

My dad used to play a bunch of alternative music for me as a kid so I thought about going that route but hit a dead end... Would ‘Rainbow Connection’ be a silly choice? We used to watch the Muppets a lot when I was a kid and the song has always meant a a lot to me. I just don’t know if it really suits the occasion or not. How do people choose?!?

It's not necessarily about whether or not it matches the occasion. Just choose whatever means something to you. That's a pretty special enough reason to want to choose that song. I've seen numerous videos where it would start off slow and then they bust out with all kinds of different songs that no one would have ever expected. That's the fun of it all. I'm sure if you end up going with that song, no one will mind. If I were you, I would definitely stick with that song since it means so much. It's YOUR day, ya know? Totally your decision.

I love Rainbow Connection, and it's totally used for that dance. It's entirely what makes you both happy.

Not silly at all. I think it's a terrific idea.

My FH and I let our parent pick the song we dance to. My dad picked Don't Worry Be Happy. I think whatever song you pick will be special. Maybe ask him if he has a song in mind.

I’ve brought it up a couple times, but he just ends up kind of going on a rant about Nirvana not having any good choices and trails off.... 😂

I chose My Little Girl by Tim McGraw. It’s a pretty classic father/daughter song, but it means something to me.

I think the key is choosing one that means something special to you!

Oh my gosh! That's adorable! It doesn't have to suit the occasion, just has to suit you guys!! How does dad feel about it?

I haven’t mentioned it yet... I wanted to give him a chance to try and think of something he liked but thought it would be good to think of something in case he can’t decide.

I went to a wedding where the mother son dance was to Head Shoulders Knees and Toes because they used to dance to that.

My daddy daughter song was "Daddy" by Abby Anderson and it was PERFECT. Not commonly used and people loved it.
I'd love to see a dance to rainbow connection!

That's adorable! I like the idea and reasoning for "Rainbow Connection."

I was thinking the exact same things earlier when trying to find song ideas for my dad and me. I was thinking classic rock, motown, or vintage jazz, because he grew up in D Town during the Motown era, we used to zoom around town listening to classic rock, and I'm a big fan of vintage jazz. I'm definitely not choosing any "butterfly kisses" over here, but I do have "Sweet Child o' Mine" on my short list..... Smiley tongue
