Uncomfortable dress?

Mrs. Jjb, on November 11, 2018 at 4:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
I have had 2 of 3 dress fittings
so far and I’m a little bummed that my dress is so uncomfortable. The arms are scratchy and the core is stiff. I originally planned on wearing a corset bra but I’m considering a stick on bra instead to loosen it up a bit around the middle. I can’t stop worrying about how uncomfortable I might be all day. I’m really running out of time, I’m only 13 days out and my final fitting is this coming Friday.

anyone else worried about this or already dealt with an uncomfortable dress? I’m bringing a back up reception dress just in case I can’t bear it but I really don’t want to have to change if I don’t have to. There is nothing at all that I like about my dress experience so far 😔

I’m sorry you are experiencing thisSmiley sad I think the back up dress is a good idea. I’m the kind of person that gets super hot easily. So went I went dress shopping and all I could think about was how hot I would be the day of 😕 I’m also considering bringing a dress to change into.

Oh wow!! I'm truly sorry you are having such a poor experience. I would bring a back up just in case. The good thing is the ceremony is short, get through the pictures and see how you feel

I don’t have my dress yet but a dress I tried on and really loved was itchy to me In the underarms and I was super bummed and worried because it was a style I tend to lean towards and want.. the lady said they can put an extra piece of material that isn’t noticeable but it helps with that... I’m sorry you are dealing with that Smiley sad

Learn from my experience and consider comfort before you buy. Mine was too big when I tried it on so it was difficult to gauge. It fits just right now but isn’t very comfortable. I wish the material was softer.

My dress was pretty stiff through the core. It was strapless with a lot of boning. I didn’t really notice it at the fittings, but then on the day of I put it on and thought it felt uncomfortable. I worried about it a bit but after wearing it for about a half hour I didn’t really notice. It also felt like it loosened up a bit as I wore it.

If its really uncomfortable, a backup dress is a good option but if it’s only slightly bothersome, odds aren’t you won’t even notice it the day of.

This is encouraging! I hope this happens to me, that’s exactly what it is- the boning in both the dress and corset bra. That’s why I’m considering doing away with the corset bra. I’m hoping that will relieve some of the stiffness. Thanks for commenting.

I'm pretty sure my dress is going to be uncomfortable too. The straps are scratchy, it's not very supportive (and I definitely can't wear any sort of bra), and it's a little snug around the hips and thighs I can't imagine sitting and eating in it.

It's still my dream dress though. So, instead of stressing about it, I'm getting a second dress to wear for dancing. We're having an 80s themed wedding and my gown is not 80s at all, so I decided I'll surprise the groom and change into something a bit more retro after dinner.

I say you should have a backup dress. This way, if it's bothering you on the day, you have that option rather than feel uncomfortable for your whole day.

Mine was scratchy at first where this is mesh and I felt like my arms were rubbing the beading during the fittings. But I sent it off to get steamed and pressed right before the wedding and it took care of the issue!

Have you mentioned anything to your seamstress? Is there anything that they might be able to do to help out with the scratchy or tightness?

I would ditch the corset bra. My friend actually took mine off(without undoing the dress somehow!) for me near the end of the reception. I was soooo much more comfy without it. I hadn't even tried the dress on without it. Wish I had so I could have avoided an unnecessary $75 purchase.

I think that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to try it this week w/o the corset and just using some pasties. It’s a low back which was the whole reason for the corset.

As far as the scratchy goes I’ll see if she can put something softer underneath it.

    Thanks everyone!

SO sorry to hear this also. I agree, wear some undergarment to help. Near the start of my reception, I took my spanks off! Also, I had an alternate dress just in case, but didn't need. Good luck!

My dress was so comfortable every time I tried it on before the wedding and I loved the way it felt, but by the time our wedding was coming to an end, I was dying! The lace on the upper part of my dress was chafing my arms hardcore after all the dancing. I didn't really notice the pain during the wedding to be honest, because the adrenaline and happiness was taking over me completely. When we were driving away from our magical wedding day towards our hotel, that's when I noticed the major pain lol

I know many of my friends end up feeling uncomfortable or in pain in their wedding gowns. Sounds so awful, but I think that's just kind of how wedding dresses are. Beauty is pain after all... Smiley winking

Ladies! I had to update here. I had my final fitting tonight and I dropped the corset bra and used some pasties (which I may not have needed) and I am sooooo happy! The dress lays so much nicer now, it’s sooooo much more comfortable and even the arms feel less scratchy?? My back fat disappeared too! 😂

I’m so happy I tried it this way, thank you for all your suggestions and posts, I feel excited again now. 8 days to go!
