Ugly Hotel Carpet

Alexandria, on January 27, 2023 at 2:16 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7
Is there any creative way to cover up and distract from this ugly hotel carpet? This is the foyer just outside of the ballroom of my wedding reception and I hate the carpeting. This will be where the cocktail hour and our buffet area for dinner will be held, so there’s a lot of traffic in this space. It clashes with my wedding colors/theme which is lots of tropical greenery and fall color florals (burnt orange, deep reds, browns, yellows).

A welcome sign & seating chart with floor floral arrangements will be in this area, as well as a bar with a similar floral arrangement. Ugly Hotel Carpet 1

How much space are you allotted? I presume then that you get an adjoining room with two or three sets of entry doors?

If you can bring in some fake trees and maybe some colored lights to shine on the wall above the doors (maybe that spell out the wedding party names). Possibly you could get runners. The general good news is that people won't likely pay attention to the floor. I think the floor is less of an issue inside the banquet/meeting areas since the tables and other decor will keep people's focus.

I saw there are many hotels with ugly carpet designs. that is crazy. I wonder why they go with carpet like that.

Honestly, the best and easiest thing (and what my event-planner sister in law suggested to me) is to make your decor and color scheme go with the venue and not trying to fit the venue with your color scheme, especially when there are such….bold choices in the venue space. Is that an option? On the bright side, most people won’t be looking at the floor. However, that carpet definitely doesn’t scream tropical greenery. The yellows maybe.

Agree with Hannah, it would have been easiest to lean into the venue colors. However, it's fine that cocktail hour is a different color scheme or theme altogether as it's a separate room. Cocktail hour will have tall bistro tables dispersed in the area. You can use the venue's free linens (whichever color) or rent yellow tablecloths and a couple votives. Tables should generally be kept bare for plates/ drinks. The good news is that people will be more attracted to the bar, greeting each other, and food rather than looking down or looking at decor. Cocktail hour is standing social hour so space will be crowded and attentions spent on not running into each other.

Unfortunately you can’t change or cover the carpet. Covering the floor is a safety hazard. Guests truly do not notice or care what the carpet/walls/ceiling look like and they understand that it is out of your control. Short of finding a different blank slate venue, you can have the room dimmed with candles but this isn’t worth the extra stress.

I totally understand where you’re coming from and I’d want my decor to match the venue as well!! I would say, keep in mind that there will be tables covering some of the floor space and people will be standing on top of the floor so hopefully the floor won’t be that noticeable because it will be mostly covered with people standing. Your photographer will also most likely get shots of the room without the floor being in the frame.

On the bright side, at least there is yellow in the carpet!
    Good luck!!!

If your cocktail hour and dinner are in the evening, you could see if the venue would be able to dim the lights and let you bring in uplighting in whatever color you want. You could also try to use cocktail lamps on the highboy tables at cocktail hour to detract people's view of the carpeting.

On Etsy you can get custom isle runners or dance floors that stick to the carpet. Get a couple plain ones or one with your names and date etc on it for the main section that will be seen.
