Ugly ceremony chairs!

FutureMrs17, on September 29, 2016 at 10:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 32

The venue has offered to let me use their older chairs for my reception but they're not the prettiest. I am not going to pay $300 to rent folding chairs so I'm stuck with these. Our ceremony is outside facing a golf course. Can anyone make any suggestions for how I can make them more attractive? Also our colors are magenta, Tiffany blue, and white so the green chairs don't match. Do you guys think that they're fine how they are?

These are the chairs that will be used in the reception. I wanted to cover these but I'm afraid chair covers are a waste of money. Opinions?

I think they're fine. Especially considering the cost. The almost have a vintage feel. And I feel as though people aren't going to be paying too much attention to the chairs.

Your posts aren't clear, but I assume those chairs in the OP are for the ceremony? They're certainly...unique...but who cares? You won't even really notice the look of the chair, since there'll be people in them! I think the reception chairs are nice looking - I wouldn't cover them at all. But I think chair covers are hideous, personally.

I think the ceremony chairs are fine. You won't even notice them with everyone sitting in them, as Bobbi and Jenna pointed out.

Thanks guys! Sorry the post is unclear. I meant that the OP picture is of the ceremony chairs and the comment picture is for the reception. I do have sashes that I thought about putting on either chair type but I may leave those off as well.

They may not be the prettiest color but they look cushioned which is nice. The ones offered for my ceremony are metal, I am not super pleased BUT I don't have to pay extra for them and people wont be seated very long. I think they will work just fine. Don't stress Smiley smile

I wouldn't bother with sashes, either. I think they look sloppy. Sometimes things fall in the category of "decorating for the sake of decorating," and I've never thought "that chair sure would look better with a loose fabric sack or a big piece of chiffon loosely tied into a bow." Give yourself one less thing to worry about. I would never think a chair itself looked bad, but I would always think sashes looked cluttered and messy.

I hate chair covers. They look old and outdated. I personally like your reception chairs the way they are. And I think your ceremony chairs are fine as well. No one is really going to remember or even care what the chairs looked like

I don't think they are that bad. I also think when you have your ceremony and reception all decorated it will take the focus off of the chairs.

Free chairs are good chairs. Plus they look like they'll be comfortable which is really what matters

Another vote for leaving the chairs alone.

As long as there are chairs to use I don't care what they look like.

I would prefer the chairs in your OP over folding chairs. It's a chair I've seen a thousand times, and I wouldn't even notice them (although I'd probably notice that they felt more secure and comfortable than those white, plastic fold-up chairs).

As far as your reception chairs, why would you want to cover neutral, substantial wood chairs with those sloppy looking upside down sacks featuring big bows that only belong on the back of a five year old's pageant dress (I hate, hate, hate those chair covers -- they absolutely dominate the rest of the room's decor) or the other kind of cover -- those spandex things that look like a pair of control top pantyhose about to split.

I wish chair covers would die a death. If a venue has chairs that are so ugly or in such disrepair that they need to covered in the fabric equivalent of a hefty bag, perhaps it's time to get new chairs. As it is, OP, your chairs are absolutely fine (I actually like the wood ones).

I think they will work without any issues. I don't think people pay much attention to chairs....unless they're horribly uncomfortable (those don't look uncomfortable) I'd just rock it out with those

You could get chair covers for the green chairs. I think the chairs inside look nice & you can get away with not having chair covers on them. Its all up to what you want.

They are fine! No one is looking to criticize chairs.
