Uber or Shuttle

Elise, on January 14, 2019 at 7:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

My wedding is up a very narrow canyon with nary a parking space to be had. Would it be all right to ask guests to park down the canyon and take an Uber/Lyft the rest of the way, or should I hire a shuttle service?

I would be concerned about a shuttles ability to traverse a narrow road....

I would be annoyed if I was being required to take and pay for an uber/lyft. So if you really don't want people driving to the venue I would either hire a shutter or do subsided uber /lyft rides (both offer ways to do it)

If you select a venue without parking that requires an UBER or Lyft, I think you should cover the cost (or pay for a shuttle). I think asking everyone to pay themselves is a lot to ask.

I'm in the same boat. We are getting married at a beach house with little parking. Though the parking lot is only 1 mile away, we will be getting a shuttle service. Could someone share more about Uber subsidy option?

I would hire a service, maybe not necessary a shuttle but something that was able to travel easy on a narrow path. I wouldn’t ask guest to pay for Uber or Lyft.

Maybe get a golf cart. I went to a wedding that had a parking space about 5 houses down and they had an extended golf cart that fit about 6 to 9 people riding around. The walk was short but my feet really appreciated this.

Here's more info on the uber subsidy: https://www.uber.com/events/

We looked into lyft which let you allocate a set amount of funds per ride, it looks like uber requires you to cover the full ride. Either way you set up an event and get a promo code you can provide to your guests

Shuttle. I find uber has way to many unknown factors. If it is in an area with so little parking/things around - are there going to be enough ubers? Are you willing for people to be late because they didn't realize the only two ubers in the area were in use and therefore it'll be 20 minutes until an uber picks them up. Even if you do the uber subsidy, it doesn't guarentee there is enough to get your guests to the venue.

A shuttle is a very easy 'The shuttle leaves at this time, no exceptions. If you miss it you will have a hard time getting to the venue'.

Absolutely provide transportation to them. If I had to either hike up a canyon or pay for a ride to get through myself after already traveling to a wedding (plus other related expenses), I’d think it was inconsiderate of the host to leave me to my own devices. These are people you want to share your day with, I’d make it as easy as possible.

Hey Elise!! In this case, I think providing a shuttle would be a great option! Depending on the area and the type of roads, Uber may not be the best option! The type of vehicle used for a shuttle service may hold up better on the road leading to the canyon rather than a small car.

Have you asked your venue what they would recommend for guest transportation?

I would hire a shuttle. If it were me and I was driving to the canyon, I'd just drive up to the wedding.

If there is no parking, definitely a shuttle! Uber won’t cut it if every one of your guests needs transportation

I would do Uber events. This allows guests to use Uber but you foot the bill. Win win for everyone

Yeah, that was my concern too. It's really truly tiny. I barely got my Honda Pilot up it.

I would definitely do a shuttle. Atleast with a shuttle you know that they are going to show up and be professional, etc. You will have a contract and a point of contact that you can work with. You don't want to be worrying about, or fielding calls from guests who can't get an Uber/Lyft (even uber subsidy) to your wedding!
