Uber black for getaway car?

Bride2Be, on January 26, 2022 at 8:20 PM Posted in Planning 1 12
Has anyone used Uber black and reserved the date for their getaway car? How was your experience and would you suggest it as a good option for saving money on this part?

I really thought about Uber for the get away car, but I have used Uber before and I personally don't want to be waiting on the car to arrive especial if they might be running late and another few minutes have to be add to the time. I'm curious to hear what others experienced, saving this post.

Yeah that’s why I’m nervous to use it. I know they have a feature where you can reserve one at a specific time and it’s supposed to show up but I’ve never done it before so I have no idea how reliable it is! I’m interested in others experiences too!

I’ve done the reserved time once before to go to the airport. It was super easy and they showed up on time. Maybe we were just lucky, but I can say my experience was pretty good. I was thinking about using it for our getaway car as well

I hadn't even heard of Uber black until I read your post...I've got to check them out! What a neat alternative to the limo!

Yeah it’s a nice black SUV and only like $50-60 I think depending how far you need to drive!

I have not used Uber Black. But we reserve cars from a private car service all of the time for pickup and drop off. I would go for a car service who is a bit more prompt. The cost for a one way pickup may be a bit more but you will have the piece of mind that they will be in time.

I like that idea a lot! I’ll ask my wedding planner for a recommendation. Thank you!

The problem is. Once you start using private cars you will develop a habit of always using them!

A few points to be careful of with an Uber—

You’re on the clock immediately, and they can leave and still charge you for cancelling the ride if you’re 2 minutes late to the pick up. So, you really have to be on top of leaving! Leaving a wedding is hard as you still have guests trying to talk to you— this would stress me out a little ! Hah. A regular car service tends to be prompt and will hang out and wait for you!
Also, at least in my area and with my experience, a pre-booked Uber doesn’t connect you with a driver in advance, but rather, automates the call out at a scheduled time a little before the pick up. This would make me nervous in case no one is available as scheduled or some sort of delay with the person available out on another call. If it’s an area with lots of Ubers all the time, less of an issue than a remote suburb who may have fewer drivers around in the later hours! I’d also prefer to connect with the driver in advance to let them know your situation.
As far as experience goes, I’ve prebooked Ubers a couple times and it’s been a mixed bag. I live in a city so there’s always someone else available, which is the only reason I’d consider it again. The first time was flawless and wonderful. The last time the car accepted the ride, and we tracked it in the map…as it drove further and further in the other direction 😩. It was an early AM pick up to go to the airport, so , you can imagine, stressful! We kept looking at it thinking “okay if it turns back now it can get here in time!” And then that window passed and we had to cancel it and hurry to find another driver.

Oh wow! Thank you for sharing this! I never would have thought about there not being enough drivers in the area or even how the dispatch part works for reserving them. That makes me think twice about this since we’ll be more outside the city center. Hopefully I can find a car service to book with. That seems like the better option.

I have not used Uber black but I have scheduled Ubers before and it can be a mixed bag. I have had drivers show up super early ,I have had drivers be prompt and it was super convenient, and then I have had drivers cancel the ride at the last minute and then scramble to try and get another one. Good luck to you!
