U.s. Honeymoon Destinations

Emily, on March 31, 2020 at 5:44 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 14

Hello!

With COVID-19 shutting everything down temporarily, my fiancé and I are unable to get our passports right now, and don't want to risk not being able to before booking our honeymoon. So, we're now looking for a U.S. destination for our August honeymoon. We'd like someplace warm, with beaches, but also activities to keep us busy. We're from Maine so would like to get out of New England.

Thank you! Stay safe Smiley smile

Hawaii would be fun! The flight might be a bit long, but it’s one of my favorite places! Southwest does pretty affordable flights and you can definitely do it on a fairly good budget. Smiley smile

I recommend island hopping. Oahu/Waikiki is more touristy and city so you can do a lot of shopping and dining. North Shore on that island is more remote and fun to explore for a day or two. Maui is much more honeymoon and relax. There’s still dining and shopping, but things close by midnight on that island whereas restaurants in oahu is open later. I remember shopping at YSL around 10pm one night there.

There are a few islands you can go to without a passport.

You can also go to the US Virgin Islands without a passport. However, if you intend to fly somewhere, make sure you get the Real ID otherwise you will not be able to board a plane for a domestic flight either.

We went to Gatlinburg, TN and stayed in a cabin! We had at least 2 things scheduled each day for the week. There was so much to do there! Also we love St. George Island in Florida. There's not much to do there lol but the beach is so relaxing and lot good eats.

If you want to stay on the east coast, the outer banks is a really good area!

So, if you want to get out of New England, you can start with the Jersey Shore, and go on down south.

You've got everything from the many coastal islands of NJ, to VA, NC, SC, GA, to ALL of FL.. and that's just the east coast.

Obviously, right now, you've got to take into consideration the course of the virus, so if you can hold out for a few weeks, you might get a better idea of what will be open, when.

    Yeah of course! Smiley smile

What kind of budget are you looking at? Like how much do you want to spend?

Last time my husband and I were in Maui, we stayed in Ka’anapali since has a little bit more nightlife than Wailea. It was still so much more chill than Waikiki/Oahu. We stayed at the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas. It’s an ocean-front resort. I want to say it was like $850/night for an ocean view room in August. Great stay though.

In Wailea, where it’s definitely more calm and less busy, the Four Seasons is AMAZING, but pretty pricey. I have heard great things about the Andaz. It’s a little bit on the pricier side, but if you book way ahead of time and depending on when you go, I’ve seen great deals at around $250-350/night which is a steal compared to their typical $600-800/night price tag.

I definitely recommend eating at Mama’s Fish House! So delicious and great ambiance! I sometimes randomly tell my husband how I’m craving food from there. 🤪 haha

I’m much more familiar with Oahu though— I vacation there every year so I can definitely recommend hotels and places to go there if you need! 💕

Oooo yeah, you definitely can get a great room. They’ll probably upgrade you too! When I went to Oahu last year for my parent’s anniversary I saw them get upgraded to a full oceanview suite at the Sheraton Waikiki. Then this past fall, I took my best friend for her birthday, and when they found out we celebrating for her birthday— they upgraded us to an oceanview room as well (this was at a different hotel).

Girl, use that honeymoon golden ticket to get upgrades and freebies all day! That’s what I plan on doing once we finally get to go on our honeymoon. 😅
