Two Weeks Notice Email. Help!

ashlynnisabella, on July 13, 2017 at 10:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hi all!! So, I work in finance & I've had the same job since I finished college 3 years ago. Today I finally heard back from a job I've been really wanting, and I got it! I have to put in my 2 weeks tomorrow, but my boss is on vacation so I'll have to email some higher ups! Any ideas on how to word the email? Never done this before and I'm nervous about it!

I have not had to go directly above my supervisor before for anything like this but you could write it out to his/her boss the same as you would if it were giving it to your direct boss.

    First- Congratulations!

When I have quit a job in the past I opened up with stating that this letter was my two weeks notice. The last day at the job would be____. That way you set the tone. There is no reason to dance around the issue.

I then went on to thank them for my employment with the firm, list a few things I had learned, but also list a few of my accomplishments during my employment.

When does your boss come back? I would still send it to them, maybe as a CC. Like pp said, just cut right to it.

He comes back the Monday of what would be my last week! I would have rather told him in person, but timing didn't work out well! I think that's a good idea to list things I've learned and things I've accomplished. I just don't want it to come across badly, because I really actually like my boss and the people I work with!

Congratulations!! Are you able to at least shoot him a text so he isn't blindsided? I agree, when I left my last job I noted in my notice what I learned and how I appreciated the development. Even though you are sending an email, I would properly attach a signed document. It's not necessary, I just think it's good form.

Congrats on the new job! It is definitely hard to quit no matter if it's on good terms with the company or not. I would definitely send it to your boss and the cc HR. Definitely state good things about your time with the company as you never know if you may need a recommendation or go back to the company. If you have a good relationship with your boss as well I would write him a separate email explaining the situation. Good luck!

If you google it, there's lot of examples. But basically say you regret giving your notice, what your last day is, that you've loved your time there, and let them know if there's anything you can do to make the transition as smooth as possible
