Two people giving Reception Welcome Speech? Best way?

Tracey, on September 11, 2019 at 12:43 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

Hi all! I know traditionally the FOB would give the welcome speech at the reception, but unfortunately my father is not doing well and will not be able to. My fiance suggested his mother - which I am fine with -, but his parents are paying $0 for the wedding. When I talked with my mother she seemed okay with the idea, but then asked if she would be able to do it with my future MIL.

What is the best way for them to do the speech together? Any suggestions or tips? Is it too tacky to have them both do it? Should I just have my mother do it alone?

HELP!!

I think if you want them to do it together, it can definitely work. I'd just have them work together on what they're going to say (you could even give them an outline to work from) so the second person to speak doesn't have all their planned sentiments spoken by the first.

Would your father want to write something, and have someone read it for him?

Oh that is a good point!!! he will still be at the wedding, just won't be up to speaking in front of everyone. maybe he can write a section and my mom could read it.

We had our DJ read a welcome speech that we prepared since we paid for our own wedding.

I would have your mom do it alone. I seems odd to me for your MIL to welcome guests to an event that she is not hosting.
