Two Ounce Stamps

Amanda, on February 9, 2021 at 10:35 PM Posted in Planning 1 6
This may be a dumb question, but I just wanted to make sure I’m doing this 100% right! We’re about to send out our invites. They’re a tad bit heavier than your average letter so we bought Two Ounce Stamps from USPS. Does anyone have experience with these two ounce stamps? Can they be the only stamp on the letter (assuming that the letter falls within the correct weight range)? They don’t need a forever once ounce stamp along with it, correct? I just don’t want all of our letters to get stuck at a post office somewhere and our guests have to pay extra postage to pick them up.

Take them to the post office to be weighed and ask what postage they need. Typically a Forever stamp is used to cover any letter size postage on its own. But anything heavier than a regular letter will require extra postage..

Guests do not pay to pick up heavy mail.

The best thing to do is to take 1 to the post office and have them weigh it and tell you what the postage would be. That's what I did, and the postal worker said that it was really common.

Best idea is to weigh one at the post office, but unless you have an extra heavy invitation, a two ounce stamp alone should be fine. Always take invitations to the post office and don't just drop them in the mailbox or a drop box. If there isn't enough postage they just won't get mailed so your guests would never have to pay extra to pick them up

Like others have said, take a sample to the post office and have them weigh it to confirm. Or if you have a kitchen scale, you could use that instead. However, wedding invitations are sometimes unusual sizes and that also requires extra postage, so best to have them look at it first. You are mailing invitations now for an October wedding?

Same as others! My invites had a wax seal so they were heavier and I took one to the post office to weigh and then you can buy all the stamps you need and then drop them all off.

Yes, 2 oz stamps are designed to be used on their own— in fact they can also be “forever” stamps, just for heavier post.
They are different than “additional ounce” stamps, which would be an add on stamp requiring a forever stamp on there too. Smiley smile
