Two flower girls, different ages, advice?

Brianna N, on May 13, 2019 at 12:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Hey everyone! Hope wedding planning is going well for you guys!

So, originally, my 7 year old sister was going to be our only flower girl. However, my FH has an 11 year old niece that we want to include and couldn't find another role for her, so she will be a flower girl as well (she wants to!). I am having trouble picking dresses for them because of the age difference. I feel like matching dresses aren't going to work because of the ages, but I want a cohesive look. Any ideas?

Thank you!

I think matching dresses would be fine as the age difference isn’t that large. If it was an 11 year old and a 1 year old that may be different.

I got my flower girl dress online at Costco, I’m not sure if they still have them but around Easter they had a bunch that were in infant sizes all the way through older girls sizes. I don’t think the age difference is that large that they can’t wear the same dress!

You should definitely be able to find matching dresses for both of those ages. I found our flower girl dresses on Amazon and they had plenty of sizes for the same dress.

Throwing it back 15 years, I was a flower girl at 10/11 years old, paired with my cousin's daughter age 5/6. We wore matching dresses. Since I hadn't gone through puberty yet it didn't look weird. My mom and her mom bought the same pattern and made them. There are tons of cute and affordable dresses at David's Bridal that I am considering for my Flower Girl.

I'd pick two dresses in the same color, or same fabric (like lace). Have you looked on Azazie?

I haven't looked on Azazie, but I've seen it mentioned here on the site! I'll have to check it out! I'm usually wary of buying clothing online. Thank you!

All my bridesmaids ordered from them, and really like the quality! The customer service has been great too.

Can she be more of a junior bridesmaid than a flower girl? Basically same “duties” of walking down the aisle and looking cute, but wearing more of a mature dress that coordinates with the bridesmaids?

Following because I’m having the same issue. We are having a 3 year old and a 7 year. Wouldn’t think that would be an issue. So I feel for you-it’s frustrating. Didn’t think that would be something I would have to stress about - I’m sure you didn’t either.

I think matching dresses would be even cuter because of the age difference. Btw, totally know what you are going through. My sister begged to be my flower girl and she's 15. Just couldn't say no. She's so sweet. But people will probably be confused about two brides cause she looks grown! 😂

I've got my two soon to be step-daughters as junior bridesmaids already... plus 4 women, so it's pretty full up there already!

Yes! I was planning on having my 7 year old sister (who is a super girly princess, lol) wear a big poofy dress! But now I'm torn, as I don't think my FH's niece would want to wear one like that.

My 3 flower girls were 7, 9, and 11 (sisters). Their grandmother made their dresses for them by combining a leotard and making a skirt out of tulle. It looked cute on each of them and was not age-specific.

Daughter's FGs were 4 and 10 year old sisters. She specifically went with David's because she wanted them to match and many of their dresses are available in infant through girls' size 14. The girls both looked adorable in their dresses, and they were $39, so not horribly expensive. The dresses had full tulle skirts and the girls LOVED how "princessy" they were.
