Two caterers?

FH and I are getting help from both my parents and his for our wedding. My dad is in charge of food. He suggested that we get food from two different cateres since we like both of them so much. They are both bbq style. Would the caterers not like it that another would be at the venue? Thought on...

It will be a buffet style. My FH is afraid of not supplying enough food for our guests because of previous we have been to. But I think my dad and him are getting carried away.

I have. I told him about olive gardens pasta bar, since we are Italian (hence all the food he wants to get). I just have to talk to him more.

I would suggest not getting 2 caterers, especially for the same type of food. There usually isn't space at a venue for 2 caterers to cook & get food ready & serve, it would be a lot of stepping on each others toes. I'd either get 2 caterers (that were both okay with another caterer) that had 2 completely different kinds of food, or 1 caterer that could do different stations. You'll also end up paying more with 2 caterers splitting the guests than with 1 for all the guests because of server fees, delivery fees, sales tax, tipping, etc.

If I were a caterer, I'd probably decline a job like that. The liability is too great, they could basically end up assuming responsibility for another caterer's food. I would think most will have an "exclusive" clause in the contract.
