Are you buying or renting? What kind of style are you looking for?

Right now, I think your best bet is to buy options online to be shipped to you or curbside pickup, and try on at home. My husband got his from Nordstrom (it was a Ted Baker tux) and they were pretty great about returns (he ordered the tux in two different sizes to see which one fit him best).

I would look at Black Tux. We didn't use it, but my husband's best friend is getting married this year and he is having the guys get their tuxes through them. They offer the option to try on the tux before you buy. They will ship it directly to your house for free. Once you receive it in the mail, you have three days to try it on to see if you like how it fits. They offer both renting and buying.

Interesting... my fiance said they have to be tailored specifically. do you think its ok to just order online in his size and forget the tailoring

No, we still got it tailored to fit him afterwards. It’s like your wedding dress— you order it in a specific size but would still need to get alterations to get a perfect fit.

Try Generation Tux. They have a similar at-home try-on as Black Tux. They'll call you once the try-on suit has been delivered to discuss the fit. If you're renting, you're allowed to do some minor tailoring (on your own at a local tailor). If you're buying (or if you qualify for the free tux to keep with enough rentals), you obviously can get it fully tailored.

Alterations are pretty quick. My husband did his in a week. By September, tailors should be open (hopefully). A lot of dry cleaners (which are open now) also do alterations as well.

If you're not set on going through a brick and mortar store I would highly recommend Menguin. My sister used them for all the guys at her wedding and my fiance and I are using them for ours. They have been great because you input height and weight information along with build and how you want the suit/tux to fix and then you get a free at home try-on so you can make adjustments well in advance. We just put in the reservation for our wedding September 19th and they have confirmed delivery for no less than two weeks in advance so that all last minute fit issues can be fixed.

Hi there! Our wedding is also in NY, upstate so maybe a little calmer than where you are, and we have now postponed from July to January 2021. However, I did see that retail (general) was part of phase 2. I took that to mean maybe a more "normal" type of shopping where you may be able to actually enter a store and not just have curbside pickup. Each phase is a minimum of 2 weeks, so if phase 1 goes well in your area, retail could be an option relatively soon! Hope this eases some anxiety!

If you know who you want to rent/buy from, I'd contact the store directly to see what they'd suggest. Lots of places are coming up with innovative solutions.
