Tux Rental Choices

Jennifer, on January 5, 2022 at 6:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

So, I had my mind set to using The Black Tux. I needed something that was nationwide since my bridesmen and my fiance's groomsmen all live in different states. Well, I've just found out that they are no longer offering measurement appointments at David's Bridal for Black Tux and we do not have a Black Tux anywhere near where we live. Everyone else in our wedding party has access to it still though. I've heard way too many horror stories with Men's Wearhouse and I'm very hesitant to use them. Any other nationwide tux rentals that are as reputable as The Black Tux? Maybe have the wedding party except my fiance rent theirs from The Black Tux and have him rent somewhere else to purposely stand out from everyone else? Any and all suggestions welcome! Knowing my fiance though, he would not want to fly to Texas just to get measured and fitted for his tux (especially with Covid).

Could you just have your fiancés measurements taken at a tailor and then purchase through Black Tux based on those?

I actually just asked my brother how it worked since he’s recently rented from them for a wedding. Apparently, you never actually go in for a fitting. You get items based on current size items or your own measurements. They send you the stuff, you try them on, and you get to return the ones that do not fit right and they’ll send you other ones to try. It’s all done online and thru the mail.

We did Generation Tux for groomsmen and it’s all online, so no issue for guys in different states. The ordering process feels weird bc they don’t actually submit all their measurements, I think they just ask for inseam and “build” type - but all of the suits fit great. Their website makes the whole process really easy and the rentals were affordable, around $140 for the jacket and pants - more for a whole outfit but we just had our GM wear whatever white shirt and shoes they liked and we provided ties and pocket squares.

Perfect! It’s a lot like Black Tux then. For some reason, I thought they had to go in for fittings but my older brother rented from there recently for a wedding and he says it’s all done online and through the mail.

P.S. my husband did a custom suit through Indochino and we were still able to match the color of his suit to the color of the GM’s rented Generation Tux suits pretty well. The custom suit was more affordable than I thought it would be. He could’ve done the rented Generation Tux suit and it would’ve looked great, but he didn’t have a really nice suit that really fit so he wanted to take advantage of the excuse to invest in one.

    Do not use generation tux.

We returned my husband's tux right after the ceremony along with one of our groomsmen. If you knew either of them they wouldn't be keeping half a suit or shoes as theyd never wear it. Now a month and a day later we both get emails stating we didn't return things. Our email said shoes and suit pants for $400. Our groomsmans email said he forgot his jacket for $600. It seems like they choose a number you owe as pants and shoes should be more than a jacket. Look at reddit and Google reviews we arent the only one this has happend to.
