Turning people away

Jakkia, on December 28, 2016 at 12:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

Hey Everyone,

I haven't officially introduced myself, but I have been commenting here and there. I'm Jakkia, and or wedding is in August of 2017, in Chicago.

We decided not to invite any children to the ceremony or reception. I have heard some stories about people bringing children, or a plus one when asked not to. If this should happen would I be wrong if I had my host turn them away? I want to make sure we stay within budget, and not having to pay for an extra person especially when we made it clear. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did you handle it?

From what I've heard, in many instances if there's an uninvited person at the wedding, the caterer is more than likely able to accomodate, especially since usually there are a couple of no-shows. But you definitely don't want to bank on that, so you should do as Mrs LMac said and clarify if anything is fishy. You should also maybe get the word out by mouth as well that there are no children allowed. I'm doing that for mine just as an extra clarification lol.

At my first wedding, we specified no kids. A distant relative of XH's brought his 8 year old daughter anyway. I was annoyed, but what could I do? I wouldn't turn them away.

My DOC has said that for guests who didn't RSVP or weren't invited, she would try to accommodate them if we had seats available (due to no shows). Usually there's at least a few seats left. But if not, then they will have to turn them away. Highly unlikely though.
