Turning a Ballroom Rustic

Stephanie , on June 6, 2017 at 5:09 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 5 11

Has anyone ever had to compromise their dream rustic reception place for a ballroom due to pricing? That's what we ended up needing to do. I was kind of sad about it at first but the place where we will have our ceremony is perfect so it works out. But now i have to be SUPER CREATIVE about turning my ballroom rustic... IDEAS!?!?!

You can't turn a ballroom into a barn, but you can add charming rustic touches that may give you the feeling you want to achieve. Check out http://www.greylikesweddings.com/real-weddings/rustic-ballroom-wedding-josh-mccullock/

Huh, my comment seems to have been deleted or something. Weird.

I wouldn't go "American Farm Rustic" with that venue, but I would try "French Country Rustic"

If you google images "french country rustic," you'll see what I'm talking about. Lots of chandeliers, white washed wood, louis style furniture (you already have the chairs sort of) etc. This is obviously a photo of someone's dining room, but this is what I'm thinking of:

@svetlana this picture is making me rethink my uplighting! So pretty. Also to OP- try a lot of burlap on tables like overlays or runners- the more flowers and greenery will help.

Uplighting will not make a ballroom look rustic. It will make it look like a club.

I suggest you ignore the surroundings and focus on the tables. That's what your guests will see.

Choose a rustic cloth like linen or flax, burlap if you must.

Lantern centerpieces would work- copper would be great.

I totally agree with this. I've not been in many barns, but I was not aware that they use uplighting. Particularly not colored uplighting. On the other hand, the fabric draping with the little lights does give it a more rustic feel.

Lanterns, copper, loads of wooden features. Burlap, lace and bring in some 'outdoors' with twigs in vases.

I wanted my wedding outdoors but my husband and dad talked me out of it. My vibe wasn't rustic per say but I spurgled on florals to add more of an earthy feel. Here's a shot of the ceremony in the process of being set up.
