Tungsten... Online or Jewelry store?

Leyila , on March 30, 2011 at 2:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I have already chosen FH's ring. It will be tungsten, gray/silver on the outside with a 3-D stripe of black inlay down the middle. FH flips out over every dime I spend. He even flipped when he bought me rings, which together were right under $1000. I LOVE my ring, and I keep telling him that. I could totally go off topic here since this is such a big issue for me. We chose his ring out together at the Jeweler's for almost $500. I found the same exact ring online for less than $50. I would rather buy the one in the store because I know it's good quality. He wants me to buy the one online because it's cheaper. ugh.. I'm spending MY money on most of the wedding and he still flips over the cost of everything. Should I buy the ring online or from the Jewelry store, where it will be guaranteed for life, btw.

The ones online are EXACTLY the same. Jewelery stores have totally insane markups. Buy the one online, as long as their policy allows you to return it if you see fit. Also, even $50 is rather steep for tungsten online. My husband's was about $25.

Yep- the ones online are exactly the same. I bought FH's ring online for $17... and finally found it in a store for $250... It's the EXACT same ring.

But the online store doesn't have to pay sales people, an electric bill for a storefront, etc. They are usually wholesalers who make a killing selling retail to you, but you save a ton!

    Buy the one online!

bought FH and my band from here for $69.00 each. they are wonderful. titaium kay also has lifetime guarantees.

the jewlery store can charge so much because of that reason...people think that just because it's from online...it isn't superior quality. i beg to differ on most things.

    Online!

    1) Theres always a chance he may lose it and you would rather have lost $50 then $500.

    2) What if he doesn't like that same ring his whole life and wants a different one? Once again, replacing $50 than $500 is a lot better.

    3) They are the EXACT same. My fiance went to Jared's to buy my ring (Jared went to Jared's! hehe) and when we went back they wanted 1200 for my band, Robbins brothers wanted 2000, and then we went straight to a manufacturer it was only going to be $500-$600! Point of the story... the stores mark up their jewelry WAY more than they are worth. So it's probably only worth the $50 but they are charging $500.

    4) It's tungsten, they can't cut tungsten and resize it anyways, so that 'lifetime guarentee' doesn't mean much.

Your money is going to be his money after the wedding too, so it's understandable he's concerned with how much you spend. If you want to upgrade later on in your marriage, by all means do. So spend your money elsewhere! Hope this helps! Smiley smile

Thank you ladies. That helps a ton. Now I don't feel guilty buying his band online, even though it's what he wanted. Smiley smile

Agreed the ones online are exactly the same as the ones in store. I went to the mall one day and had them take the ones out of the case in the stores. I looked at all the stamps and such on the rings. Then I found the same rings in the mall and again looked at the stampings. Exactly the same. The jewelry stores just put a huge markup on the stuff. My FH loves dragons. I got his tungsten ring for $30. Very beautiful and with celtic dragons. Amazon was a great resource for tungsten and titanium and great prices.

@ Nikki t. I love your FH's ring!! I collect dragons and wanted to incorporate them into the wedding somehow but FH wanted this ring because he wants one that kind of coordinates with mine.

My FH bought his tungsten ring online, and we got an awesome deal on it! It is a size 9 and when it arrived its too big, fits over the knuckle perfect but slides off too easily... we went to a jeweler to have his ring finger sized last week so we could go online and order another one... and his finger is a size nine! Something with the way the ring was cut, the jeweler said something about it being "comfort fit". Well anyways we decided to pay about 60.00 more and just order it from the local jewelery store so we don't have that problem again. Just thought I'd share my story, although I think the deals online are really hard to beat!!! Goodluck Smiley smile

@ Betsy H. I had the fear that would happen so I had FH get his comfort fit size. I also found an online store that has an exchange policy if it doesn't fit. Smiley smile

@ Elizabeth H. Very nice! It looks alot like the one I bought for my FH.
