Trying to pick my date - Do vendors charge more for Sat?

Charis, on August 8, 2017 at 3:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 30

I'm pretty sure I have my location and it's a house where the day (Sat or Sun) doesn't matter. I've heard that venues usually charge more for Sat weddings but do vendors charge more too?

I believe so, it might depend on which vendor to be honest

You need to price your area. Do this before making a decision as it could end up saving you a lot. On the other hand, if the vendors do not differ that much on price between the two days, absolutely go for the Saturday if you want higher attendance.

In large metropolitan areas absolutely yes. In my town, the caterer's price and the florist's price is the same across the board all days and times while the photographer would be cheaper not on Saturday. It's based on their normal availability for work as the caterers and florists have so many more non-wedding sources of business.

Depends on the venue. I've seen prices that are higher on Saturday than any other day of the week. I've had vendors say Fri or Sun are cheaper than Sat and Mon-Thur are cheaper than Fri or Sun. Just depends. Shop around

I had venues change prices for Sat and peak season, none of the vendors I have picked so far changed more for being on a Sat.

I know in our area, (Maryland), vendors do normally charge less on a Friday/Sunday. Tho if it is a holiday weekend then you are normally charged Saturday rates on a Sunday.

Mostly it's venues. We charge the same for every day except Monday and Tuesday.

They necessary charge more. But they may offer discounts for non-Saturday dates. Some vendors offer discounts for Sundays, but not all. You'll get the most discounts for weekdays.

It truly depends on the vendor. My photogs charge more for Fri/Sat and less for Sun-Thur, but all other vendors except venue were the same cost for any day.

I live in the Midwest and every vendor I looked at charged the same for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Only venues charge differently.

Yes. Our wedding venue charges less for daytime Saturday (concludes by 4pm) than evening. We moved our time back and saved $20 per person, mainly for catering.

I've never heard of vendors charging more, just venues. But I could be wrong.

    Hi Charis,

Most vendors do not up charge for weekends (Saturdays specifically). However, venues will often times charge more for a Saturday. With that being said, many vendors, including myself (I'm a wedding planner), will offer a discounted rate during non-peak season. In Florida this would be mid June - August when it's the hottest. Otherwise, rates are pretty standard no matter the day of the week because the amount of work that vendor does for you is still the same. I hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Sarah White

For my venue, a restaurant, there was no difference. My DJ charged me more since my wedding is on a Saturday (as opposed to any other day). My photographer, on the other hand, gave me a discount as my wedding is off season. So I think it may be vendor dependent.

They don't necessarily charge more but you may have more bargaining power on a day other than Saturday. It will be area dependent though, if there aren't many Sunday weddings in your area, they may lower prices to book clients.

Our venue was about 20% cheaper per person, for a Friday or Sunday night, vs. the high demand Saturday nights. Instead of saving money we ended up hosting more people, for the same $ budget amount.

I believe there was an upcharge from the florist/decor company, since they had to pay their people overtime? The photography/videography company had published rates and everything seemed to be the same; I don't know about the band, but I'm assuming no discount.

My photographer and DJ gave me a discount for having a Friday wedding, it was only a couple hundred bucks but its something. I don't think it would have made me change my date tho.

My venue offered a MUCH higher discount for a Friday wedding.

The venue had a lower minimum but we are hitting that regardless, so it did not matter. We have a Friday because that is the only day they had available, but none of our other vendors have given us a discount

My venue is cheaper on a Friday which is why we went with them but as far as like my DJ and photographer they are the same price Friday or Saturday just more options too because Saturdays are more popular

I don't. IMO, wedding vendors shouldn't. We are after all in the business knowing full well that weddings take place the majority of the time on Saturday, then Friday and Sunday.
