Trying to lose weight

Leah, on June 6, 2017 at 1:06 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 20

I am getting married in November and I want to lose around 30lbs at least but hopefully closer to 40. Is that possible to do in a healthy way? Of so what tips do you guys have? What diets or excercises have really worked for you guys?

There are a lot of variables here. First of all, How overweight are you? This matters. The more weight you have to lose, the faster it will come off at first, with the least amount of effort.

It depends on your body composition. I'm 5'3" and sit at 130 whether I'm toned and working out regularly, or it's winter and I've let it go.. my friend at the same height sits around 140 with regular working out to maintain.

I think what's more important is learning to love the body you're in and embarrassing it. Confidence is key at any size weight. Weight is just a number, you'll look stunning in your dress no matter what!

The pounds may not be that much (due to transference of fat to muscle) but the inches will be substantial if you pick up an Insanity workout program and stick to it. Best shape of my life, working back towards it again now. I suggest the original Insanity or Max30 which has modifiers (will allow you to ease in if you're out of shape or accommodates injuries by removing high impact moves). Do the full range of motion each time and you'll get stronger and eventually faster so you can do more reps. Don't worry about keeping pace, just do what you can till you fatigue and then move through it. I maintained primarily a paleo diet with some gluten free foods. Removing processed foods, simple carbs, and excess sugar really boosted my energy levels and let me push harder. Take it slow though for all of it, if you push too hard you'll quit. All that hard work will be worth it in the end though. You'll feel and look like never before, and you'll dance the socks off your FH at your reception! Good luck!

It's doable. I'm actually working with a client who is trying to lose 20-30 pounds by november for her wedding as well (I'm a trainer). I wouldn't do anything crazy. Just start cutting out processed foods, junk food, fast food, and sugar (not including fruit or natural sugars, though you can cut down on those). Eat high protein and whole grains and lots of veggies. I'd use a calculator like freedieting.com to figure out how many calories you should be eating, and then use an app like myfitnesspal to track your food so you don't have to guess if you're eating the right amounts. Then start working out with weights 3-4 times per week, and doing cardio 3-4 times per week (all on the same day or split up). I'd start with 30 minutes of walking or an elliptical, and you can do machines at the gym if you're not sure what else to do. Otherwise get a trainer to help you with a few sessions to learn some full body movements and a circuit you can do to burn the most calories in the least amount of time. focus on big muscle groups like chest, back, legs, shoulders, and core. You could start with some youtube videos with bodyweight stuff, but don't do that too long. Weights will make a much bigger impact. But just do SOMETHING and be CONSISTENT. That will make a huge difference. If it helps, I created a Beginner's Guide to Working out that may be of some help on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efQjfB_qfTw&list=PLsl8XGeJ1iX7ElvUIOKNNdlb4HmHFg7Vv Good luck!

I'm a super big advocate of Beachbody and all the programs they offer. I did 21 Day Fix and lost 7 lbs and 6 inches in the first 2 weeks.

Weight watchers is great!!! I found a deal on groupon and got it for around $35 for 3 months. I use the barcode scanner when I go grocery shopping to help me pick out things that are healthier for me. Its a great way to not deprive yourself of the things you love but it cuts you back. One of my friends cut out fried food, bread and desserts and has lost 9lbs in 3 weeks. Another one of my friends went on weight watchers and lost 20lbs doing that and doing 45 mins of cardio a day 6 days a week.

Overall it's all about what you eat. Cut back on your portion sizes, drink less alcohol, cut out sugary drinks like soda, juice, frappuccinos. Read this too

So you are 5'3'' and 150 lbs and you would like to be 110lbs? I would say that is near impossible in 5 months. Currently your BMR is around 1450 calories (I estimated you were 25 years old). Which is the amount of calories you burn doing nothing. You would need a deficit of 500 calories a day in order to lose 1 lb a week or 4 lbs a month. So you would need to either eat 500 calories less than 1450 a day (not recommended) or burn 500 calories a day (probably near impossible to do 7 days a week) or a combo of both (that could work). If you perfectly followed a combo of eating a deficit and working out for 5 months you would lose around 20 lbs and as you lose more weight that 1450 calories gets lower. You may have a lot of water weight you can drop quickly but after that it will be slow sailing.

If you are really serious about losing weight, I would set your expectations lower and join Myfitnesspal. It helped me lose 20 lbs and has helped me keep it off. Also look into what will happen with alterations if you do lose that weight.

One word of wisdom on this, is whatever weight you're trying to lose have a cut off date. Because when it gets closer to the wedding and your dress has been fitted to you if you continue to lose weight your dress will not fit correctly the day of. I have seen this happen a couple of times with friends where dresses were too big and that is just as bad as having your dress be too small the day of.

The weight loss center i worked at ... People regular lost 3 lbs a week but some were 5 or 6 and the ones with the most weight to lose were in double digits per week

Its all about the basics. A lot my clients didn't work out either or couldn't. Work out was optional.

You'll lose more weight by fixing your food than by working out. But I'm another vote for beachbody programs. Try 21 day fix to figure out eating first, then go from there. I am 5'2 and rarely below 140 because when I work out my body packs on muscle. I'm usually a size 6. Getting to a four is really hard work for me and requires more dedication to maintain than I can muster most of the time. So it will depend partly on your body. But you probably have plenty of time to drop 20 lbs especially if you focus on diet. Focus on actual lifestyle changes though unless you want to gain it all back after the wedding.

Cardio and change your diet asap. No whites, sugars and bread always does it for me. For cardio I cycle and lift weights

Eat less, cut out processed foods, and don't eat carbs after 7pm.

    Lots of strength training

HIIT (i.e, Strong by Zumba is fantastic)

Cardio (swimming, elliptical, treadmill, Zumba, etc.)

    Yoga

That is my weekly schedule now. I work out about every other day for 60-90 minutes, and I don't go light with weights. I typically do cardio for no more than 30 minutes, unless it's my Zumba class that I teach. I also try to do yoga with my yoga app more than once a week for strength, flexibility and balance. Wish I would have started eons ago.

I use "my fitness pal" app to log my calorie intake. You can also track carbs , protein , sugar etc. It helps to keep you aware of what you're eating as how much .
