Trying on my gown after weight gain

FutureMrsPurdy, on March 1, 2015 at 11:46 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

So I'm 14 pounds heavier than when I got my dress. I have 3 months to lose weight until my dress needs to go to my friend for alterations. My mom wants me to try my dress on today. I'm nervous. I know it's not going to fit, but hopefully it will give me motivation to lose weight. Anyone else in the same boat?

AH! I feel you. I have officially started my strict "diet". I am going to use my fitness pal and count my calories. I used to do slim4life and it worked really well for me so I'm going to do my own version of that. I only have 2 months and I want to get down 15 lbs so I'm right there with you. Go ahead and try it on, that might help with the motivation. I will be trying mine on for the first time in my size this weekend and I'm really nervous.

    Good luck, you got this!

I'm sort if in a similar boat! I bought a dress at the end if Jan that I know will look stunning *if* I lose weight lol. I ordered it a size smaller and with a corset back. My sister recorded me in the dress. So I have vids of how badly I need to lose weight. Whenever I lack motivation to work out, I just watch the video and gets me moving! lol I have 6 months to go and hoping to lose 30-40 lbs. Maybe put your dress in and record yourself in it? The vid motivates me more then the pics personally lol

I have been in the past with clothes. my thyroid started to be a problem so I had a big weight gain. but once I got on meds I started to loose and a lot of the loss happened while wedding planning. which drove me crazy while trying to get my dress to fit right, particularly with all I was doing and stress I wasn't eating properly. loosing weight can be great, but when you're trying to make sure a dress will fit properly, it can be a challenge!

I've always been up and down with my sizes, one reason I sew so many of the things I wear. several years ago a boss of mine invited me and my husband to her wedding and I wanted to wear a beaded dress I had. problem? I had gained weight so the dress didn't fit! I worked for 6 months to get back into that dress. it was tight the day of, but I was in it. to do it again I would have just made a new dress, but that's what I did at the time Smiley smile

I'm sure it will be fine, if the dress doesn't fit right today, you have time to deal with it. if it doesn't fit, I'd let the seamstress know ASAP just in case some material or supplies to alter the dress has to be purchased or ordered. chin up, there's ways to deal with this!

    good luck!

Me! My problem is I haven't lost my winter weight yet and it gives me anxiety. But I know I can lose the weight if I just plan my meals out and stay away from wine!!

Yep...I've gained ten pounds, and I have a fitting coming up in June. I'm freaking out!!! FH got laid off, and my whole family got really sick, and we all had to go to the hospital, then my car broke down. It's been a stressful few months, and the stress has packed on the pounds. I'm so nervous to go in and try my dress on again. Yikes...I feel ya!

So I tried my dress on and it's 6 inches from closing in the back?!? I'm really upset. But this will keep me motivated. I have to lose the weight. I guess I weighed less than I thought when I tried on my dress... Yikes!

I definitely understand, we can be in this together ladies. Please, just make sure you lose weight the healthy way. Don't stress it either, stress can cause you to hold water thereby, retaining unwanted weight.

You might be surprised. I gained weight after I ordered my dress, and I was actually dreading going to pick it up for that reason. It ended up fitting and was even a little loose on top. Don't fret... you still have plenty of time to get in shape if it's a little snug.

I'm also in a similar boat. I'm about 8lbs more than I am when I bought the dress. And I bought it NOT for the size I was but a size down bc I was that size the entire year before, and figured I would be strict dieting and exercising the entire year before the wedding. Today is my 5 mos. Lol nope.

Edited: I HAVE started dieting and exercising but not strict enough as I'm only down 2lbs from Feb 1.

I agree to lose weight the healthy way. I don't think it was a good idea to buy a gown a size smaller than what you are. Your wedding is one day, you will look great in ANY size dress , so losing for your wedding is i'm sorry but dumb. You should be losing for life not just your wedding day and looking "awesome" in your dress. Sure, ALL of us Brides want to look fit, and awesome on our wedding days, but stressing over weight loss is not healthy for anyone.

For me, I am down on my weight since the Holidays Smiley smile...I haven't even been strict "dieting". My fitness pal doesn't work for me, if I don't want to put in the food I just don't put it.... I still eat it though. but I do limit the sugars (I haven't drank soda or had a frappuccino in AGES!!)

I drink a LOT of tea, mint, black and green tea are my faves (especially chai..not the chai tea latte, chai tea)

    I exercise regularly.

I eat normally, have been eating a lot of avocado and hummus, I still enjoy my cookies/cakes on the side as well. I don't think its healthy to deprive yourself of what you like. Just need to teach yourself limits. I don't count my calories, and also don't think that is healthy or a sustainable way to lose weight. Cause really, who wants to count calories for the rest of their life?? Not me!! Not to mention some foods have more calories than other foods but are healthier for you(like avocados vs. 100 calorie snack packs)

    I agree with Julie!

I lost a lot of weight, but it came off very fast because I had a eating disorder relapse from being so stressed over loosing 3 family members. it took a toll on me and how I looked. I still felt very pretty, but it was not a healthy weight loss, so not something anyone should do if they can avoid it!

besides, if you loose weight too fast, you're almost certain to gain at least some of it back and it's common for many to just gain it all back and then some. keep it healthy!

@stitchingbride - my dress didn't fit. It only zipped up halfway and there is a gap of 6 at the top of the back.

I joined weight watchers January 7th and have lost 10 pounds, but I have been not focused the last three weeks. But I now have some new motivation! I will be taking a break from alcohol and reducing the amount of sugar in my diet. Hopefully that will help speed up the weight loss.
