Trying on dresses early

Sonora, on July 28, 2019 at 1:32 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
I got engaged in April, moved to Washington state from California in June. My fiancé’s in the navy so we’ll be moving again next year even further away from home. We don’t plan on getting married until 2021 but I’m having a girls weekend in 2 weeks with my bridesmaids in LA and I’m wondering if it’s ok to try on dresses without purchasing. Is that a thing? I don’t want to feel pressured or feel like I’m wasting anyone’s time just trying on dresses to see what I like or don’t like. I don’t even have a budget yet.

It doesn’t hurt to look! I think it’s the experience with your friends that will mean the most. Just keep in mind that there is a huge possibility you may fall in love with a dress. Try to go with a budget in mind though! Have fun and enjoy being engaged

I went to several bridal shops and tried on dresses even though I knew I wasn't going to purchase any that day. It helps to shop around to see what everyone has and to figure out your size. You'll need to book consultations for most places but it's a ton of fun!

It's totally ok! I went a year and a half early. I was visiting my parents our of state. I had just gotten engaged and thought it would be fun to have a girls day with mom and just went to a bridal shop for fun, we hadn't talked about buying anything or a budget. Tried one 2 dresses..the second one was the one and I'm sure if we had talked about a budget it would have broken it! But we hadn't planned on anything when you find it you know. Or you just have a fun day with the gals and drink some bubbly while you're at it!

I am getting married in April of 2021 and went dress shopping yesterday as a “just for fun” trip with my friends. I was determined not to purchase a dress as I wanted to take my mom and fmil with me early next year. Well what do you know, I found the dress and purchased it yesterday! I would suggest walking in with a budget in mind just in case you do happen to find THE dress.

Totally ok! It helps to start shopping early. No stylist should pressure you. She can write down your top 3 favorites in case you return.

To get out of a high-pressure appointment you can say you want your mom to see it before buying. 😉

I found one boutique that serves champagne but their gowns range from $2500-$4000 and I know for a fact that I won’t be paying over $1000 for a wedding dress.

Go to shops that allow you to browse on your own. Don’t make an appointment with the intention of wasting someone’s time and keeping them from serving other customers who are ready to buy. Remember this is how the salesperson feeds his/her family. Have fun but be thoughtful of the salespeople.

Of course it's okay to go ahead and start trying on dresses! You can find out what you like and what you don't like in a dress

Go try on as many as you want. You dont have to commit to anything. And if I may suggest, as someone who bought their dress 15 months before her wedding, dont buy too early.
There were several times when I felt I should have drawn out that experience a little longer and wondered if I picked the right dress.

Hey Sonora!! Have you gotten the chance to try on some dresses? Did you find anything you like? What style of dress are you thinking about?
