Trying on dresses before your big appointment

Marisa, on February 5, 2022 at 12:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
My fiancé and I are still working on a date but know what venue we want and before I do the big appointment with family I was thinking of going with just my daughter to see what silhouettes I would like just to get an idea. I’m very indecisive 😳 Have you guys tried dresses on before the big appointment date? I know most of these consultants work on commission and I don’t want them to feel like they’re wasting their time

I worked in bridal for 3.5 years, and I definitely had appointments like that! My one warning would be that you could absolutely fall in love with a dress- I’ve seen it happen before in this situation. Personally, the store I worked at didn’t ever do commission- we just made minimum wage and that was it. If you’re worried about it, my recommendation would be go on a weekday if you can. Bridal salons aren’t usually very busy then, so they wouldn’t be missing out on a commissioned sale by working with you. You could also request to work with the same consultant when you go to buy. Hope this helps!

Yes that happened to me! Luckily I brought my MIL with to look at dresses at a store that was having a closing sale because I found my dress. Unfortunately without my mother and sister present.

I did this on a whim at a much smaller shop than the one I already had the appointment for a few weeks later. My mom was with me but not my MIL, who I had invited to the other appointment. I ended up finding my dress that day and canceling the appointment at the boutique. My MIL was happy for me that I found something under-budget and that I was in love with.

A big appointment is never necessary and may, in fact, not be allowed depending on the bridal salon. I would absolutely go with your daughter and see what you find, you may find your dress - it only took me 8 dresses to find "the one."

My first dress try on appointment , the consultant heard it was my first time and said “okay— don’t buy a dress today! If you find something you love, you can always come back” — if it is commission based, still don’t stress: make sure to get their name/a card, and if you want to go back to revisit something you loved, just make sure to ask for them when scheduling!
