Trunk Shows (Advice From Those That Have Been To One)

BeachBride2016, on January 15, 2016 at 9:52 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I'm debating on going to an upcoming trunk show or 2 at the local bridal boutiques in my area. The main thing for me when dress shopping (besides loving the dress, of course!), is getting a good deal.

How much of a discount did you see on these dresses? And, is the trunk show/discount really only for their season's new line or do they have dresses from past seasons that are available/discounted, too?

Discounts will vary from store to store, so you should contact them directly to learn their policies. One shop I went to during a trunk show offered a 15% discount on all of their dresses, not just the trunk show designer. Another only discounted those designer's dresses. I was under the impression that we would be able to see the trunk show dresses on display, which was also not the case at either store. The dresses were all in a back room, and the consultants brought them out just like they would bring out any others.

I went to one trunk show at one of our local bridal boutiques when I 1st starting looking for dresses. The deals were amazing. Most dresses had price cuts from $500-$1000 off. If you find your dress at one of these, score. Sizes are extremely limited. For me, it seemed all the dresses I loved were several times too small, with no hope of alterations. One dress I tried on and there were so many flaws on it from being tried on too many times, that the cost it would take to "fix it up like new" I could buy a brand new dress. Its one of those things, you gotta go to say you tried. Its hit or miss. For me, it was anyway. As for their bridal party attire, I had my jr. bridesmaid with me. They had all gawdy type dresses, and we didn't end up finding anything for her either. All in all, I was glad I went, because if I didn't I would never know what I missed. It could be good, or it could be bad.-

I went to a couple trunk shows at a local bridal shop, Allure, Maggie Sottero. No discounts, but dresses were flown in by the designer that the store wouldn't normally have on hand. Tons of dresses during the trunk show! Ones from new upcoming lines, If you like one not in your size you can order it. So check with the store to my sure it's a trunk show and not a clearance.

One trunk show I went to were the runway dresses soooo size 0 and 2 lol. It was kind of funny, kind of depressing as I tried to get my ass in the dresses. I'm not sure if this is normal as it was the one and only trunk show I went to.

10-15% off usually. I went to a Stella York one, but didn't find one I liked enough. We couldn't take any pictures of those dresses because some were one of a kind.

If there is a specific designer that you really like then I definitely recommend going to a trunk show!! My first time trying on dresses I really liked 1 by Hayley Paige, and they let me know there was going to be a trunk show for her the next week. I came back and found the dress (a different one by the same designer). They had a lot more of the designer's gowns that they don't normally carry in store and were offering 10% off. I didn't buy that day because I needed time to think on it, but I'm waiting for her next trunk show in my area on the 23rd and going to buy the dress at 10% off!

I got my dress during an Allure trunk show and it was 10% off. I believe the discount applied to all Allure dresses in the shop, however, not just the ones from the new line.

I went to a truck show in Hollywood CA, but only really wanted to go because they carried Lazaro and Hayley Paige. I felt a little pressure to buy a dress at 10% off by the consultant but I had another appointment to go to so the 10% wasn't worth it for me. My other appointment was at a Nordstrom Bridal Suite and I ended up falling in love with a Monique Lhuillier dress, which the consultant offered me 10% off because she had a truck show the following weekend. Score!

The Hayley Paige trunk show I went to had her dresses 10 percent off. They were the ones I had been looking at.

For the allure one I went to, 15%off the newest line, 10% off the older lines. I bought something from the spring line of the same year, so they gave me the higher discount.

I am going to my 1st trunk show next Friday for accessories and I am excited! The headpiece I have my eye on is pricey, so any discount applied will be great Smiley smile
