Trouble finding a church in Milwaukee that doesn't require you to be a member to get married....

Kiana, on July 18, 2011 at 5:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I have been looking high and low for a church in Milwaukee that my fiance and I can get married at; however, I've had no luck. We can't get married at our church because they haven't done the events/schedule for 2012 yet and advised us to call back in November once the 2012 calendar of events is done to see if the date (July 21, 2012) we want to get married on is available. We don't want to take that risk and now are looking for other churches to get married at. We are running into the problem that all of the churches I have called require you to be a member in order to get married at their church. Does anybody know of a church in Milwaukee that doesn't require you to be a member in order to get married at their church? PLEASE HELP!! Your suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

I am not from Milwaukee, I am from NY. I kinda went through the same thing. I was a member of a Church, but then when I moved, I didn't know that I was no longer considered a member of that Church, even though it was where I received all my sacraments. Anyway, when I went back to my original church to set the date they told us that technically we cannot get married there because it is no longer our parish. The priest did say, however, that if we go to our current parish and have them write a letter that "releases" us, they will marry us no problem. Maybe mention that and see if something can be done... Good luck!!

Try a Unitarian Universalist church. They are typically willing to marry you regardless of your religion.

I don't have any suggestions, but I just wanted to pop in and say I'm having this problem too! Ugh. My current church is actually my favorite option, but has two kind of huge issues with it. Which is another story... lol. But you could try Methodist churches. I know that many in my area allow those who aren't members, although at an increased price. :/ Good luck, though!

You could always pay out the wazoo and get married at the Milwaukee Art Museum!! Smiley smile I went there once and fell in love and dreamed of having my wedding there! Totally was out of my budget though! haha.

I'd suggest using your own church. Just pencil in your calendar when the schedule will be released- and call that day. The entire month of November, be asking the person who does the scheduling...

But I'd find your reception venue first, and make sure they have the date available you want. Then, you can have the back up plan of getting married at the recpetion venue if for some odd reason your church isn't available.

Very good suggestion Meghan. Thank you! I just feel as if we are taking a risk with waiting until November because if that date isn't available, then we would have a problem.

Hi Kiana, my fiance and I live near Waukesha. We've found a place called the Wedding Gardens in Allenton, which is close to Germantown and Jackson. They have an all faiths chapel that can seat 400. It looks very pretty on their website. Not sure if this helps you at all - Milwaukee is a big small town!
