Tried on dresses - no magical feeling

Tiaona, on March 18, 2020 at 8:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
I tried on dresses for the first time today and I feel a little discouraged... I definitely got to figure out a little bit more of what I like and what I don’t like. I also feel like my style is all over the place because there are dresses that are fitted that I like but also some that aren’t fitted that I liked. I’ve narrowed down dresses that I liked but I didn’t get a special feeling or any tears with any of them. I have plenty of time until my wedding but I’m afraid I’m waiting for a special feeling or sign to know it’s the one??

You may not get the media-portrayed feelings and that's okay! Quite a few brides actually don't get emotional over a dress, myself included. I decided on my dress because it looked beautiful on me and was a killer price (sample sale, 85% off original price). I never got teary-eyed, or butterflies, or any emotion along those lines. I just felt beautiful. I also tried on close to 40 gowns, so don't get worried if you've only shopped once. Give yourself some grace if you don't have the "oh-my-goodness, I'm crying all over the place" moment. In my head, yes, it's an important dress, but at the end of the day, it's still only a dress. I don't get emotional over clothes to begin with, so why would this article of clothing be any different? That being said, you may end up having "that" feeling and have just not found the dress yet and that's completely valid as well! In future shopping trips, I would go in with less emphasis on having the moment and more on finding a beautiful gown that you love. If the feelings come, bonus!

I didn’t get teary eyed either! Not an issue. I’m still excited to get married to my best friend just didn’t have an ah ha moment when I found my dress! I’ve heard it’s quite normal.

I don’t think every bride gets that magical feeling when putting on the “perfect” dress. I know for me I didn’t but I still loved it.

I wasn’t connecting with a dress either. I knew I like pieces of different dresses. I sort of had it in my head. I went to 6 salons before finding. I was done looking but still had a 7th salon scheduled. I decided to increase my budget a bit as I wanted bling. Bling is more and by increasing just $200 I found the one. I didn’t cry right away. But when I started talking to the sales lady and talked about my fiancé I was boohooing like a baby.

Keep looking. It took me 8–10 stores to find mine. I didn’t cry but I just knew. You’ll know.

For me my moment was when the girl asked me to sit down in my dress and I said “I feel like I’m ready to eat my wedding cake” and that was my moment. I did pick my first dress that couldn’t be altered and I did cry but I think it was just from being overwhelmed now. You may not get the whole tears, crying and how the media puts it and that’s okay! You’ll know when you know!!
