Trick or Treating

Rhea, on March 12, 2019 at 5:04 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
Okay, so my fiancé and I are getting married on Halloween and I suggested substituting bar hopping with trick or treating. Obviously he said we’re too old for that but I figured I’d come and ask you. What’s your view on trick or treating after the ceremony?Smiley tongue Smiley laugh Smiley xd

I'm 25, so I would not be trick or treating ever (even if it was for a wedding), we would be at the wedding or at an after party or at home. If we had kids, we would probably want to be in our own neighborhood with our kids friends & the rest of our family. So I think either way, we wouldn't go.

I would find that really strange. But I would also find bar hopping strange. I would be expecting a dinner or reception of some sort.

Oh no, of course we’re having a reception. Bar hopping is a thing that my brother did for his wedding and I quite liked the idea. We’re also on the younger side and just kind of enjoy the Halloween spiritSmiley laugh if not trick or treating, which I do suppose is kind of odd, I would still love to include Halloween traditions

I wouldn't go out trick or treating. I'd just have the reception Halloween themed. You could do a haunted trial, maze, blow up decor, animated decor, etc. As a guest, I'd expect a ceremony and a reception with food, dancing, cake, etc. If you want to do a theme that's fine and dandy but I'd still expect an actual reception. Would this bar hopping/trick or treating happen after your reception? What time are you getting married/what time would the reception end?

You could have a trick or treat station and maybe make a costume requirement. Adults may not be comfortable with that and most people don’t want adults coming to their doors for candy either.

Trick or treating seems a bit odd after a wedding, to me. As a candy passer outer I get annoyed with adults (over 18) going out. Maybe encourage guests to dress up. Or have a best costume gift or something?

While I would love to trick or treat in neighborhood many would give adults an odd look lol However! If you have it in your budget, a candy bar at the reception would be super cute for this occasion specifically so the adults can “trick or treat” as well 😊

You could have different candies as part of your centerpieces and have guests "trick or treat" around tables to encourage mingling.

Bar hopping on Halloween after your reception would be a blast! Especially since you’ll still be in your wedding attire, right? No trick or treating, especially not with guests in tow (usually it ends around 8:30 or 9 pm anyway. Will your reception even be done by then?).

Hey Rhea! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

I think instead you should incorporate the Halloween spirit into your reception! You could have a candy bar for guests to grab candy from and Halloween themed decorations!

No of course, what I meant was having something kind of small and personal. I would never go house to house like that Smiley xd

This is a know your crowd type of thing but maybe you could have your reception at a haunted house/turn the reception venue into a haunted house? Ask guest to dress up or instead of trick or treating or instead of a candy buffet you could do a trunk or treat in the parking lot of the venue. Or just have a candy buffet with Halloween themed candy. Good luck
