Trials. . .how far in advance

Ingrid, on February 24, 2021 at 8:13 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 13
I'm getting the ball rolling again now that our Aug 28th wedding is going to happen. . .emailed my hair and makeup person to get my trial scheduled.

Last year before we postponed out Sept wedding the trial was about two months in advance. At the time that seemed about right.
Now with the new dates they asked for seem too far out from the wedding day. How far in advance was your trial?
Also what happens if I don't like it. . .pay for another trial or adjust the look while in the first trial?
Any advice is much appreciated

I haven’t had my trials yet but I’ve researched that people typically schedule them about 2-4 months before their wedding. My dress will be here at the end of May for my October wedding. So I plan on doing my trial in early June and bringing my dress to the appointment so I can see the full look. Thankfully I’ll be able to get my hairstylist and makeup artists together so we can make sure the full look is perfect. And if you don’t like what they do, I would definitely let them know and ask they make adjustments until you’re happy. I’m sure you’re paying good money for their services so you absolutely should get what you want Smiley smile

My hair and makeup trial is scheduled for the last week of March for my June wedding, so a little over 2 months out. Like Kelly said, if you don't like something, just tell them and they'll keep making adjustments. I wouldn't leave until you're satisfied with your look. If you do go home and then realize you don't like something major, like you want a completely different hairstyle, I would pay for another trial.

I haven't had my trail yet but I have my trail set for July 3rd and my wedding is August 14th. I was told to have it close to the wedding date because through out the year your skin tone can change so you want to make sure you do the trial around the time your skin will be as close to the same as it will be on the wedding. Like in the winter I become a little pale were as in the summer I get a little more tan.

I'm getting married 8/28 too, and mine is actually this weekend. But I'm having a destination wedding, so circumstances dictate that this is only time I can do it.

My wedding is August 5th and I'm doing my trial June 12th. But oh man I never even thought about what'll happen if I don't like my trial.

I got married in October and did my hair trial in early September. My makeup trial, on the other hand, I did about a year before (for my engagement photos).

Give them feedback during the trial so they can achieve the look you’re going for and help ensure you’re happy with the work. Subsequent trials can cost more depending on their policy, but you hopefully won’t need to worry about one!

We live in northern AZ & our venue is in the Phoenix area which is 2.5 hours away which is where my makeup artist lives. I did my trial June’20 for my 4/3/21 wedding. I know the look I’m going for - that hasn’t changed. After my trial, we tweaked a few things so we are ready to go!

Thank you for all of your insights and suggestions. Looks like the timing of my trials are on pace of what others seems to have as well. Easing my mind a little,

I would suggest sooner rather than later. I thought I had plenty of time for my wedding scheduled 6/12/21, but nearly every hair and makeup artist I reached out to was already booked. I finally found one who was open so I booked my trial right away (this weekend). Keep in mind that most places won’t hold your spot until after you sign the contract so if you’re waiting until after the trial to sign the contract then I would book it ASAP.

I purposely scheduled my makeup trial for the day of my bridal shower, which was just under 3 months before the wedding. I had my hair trial about 6 weeks before the wedding, and scheduled it for the day of an alterations appointment/dress fitting.

My wedding is October 2021 and I have my trial scheduled for March. The reason I recommend doing it early, is that unless you know their work, you have to see if you like how it comes out.
