Trial makeup and hair for engagement photos?

Jessica, on March 1, 2017 at 11:12 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hi Ladies-

So I'm having a hard time deciding if it makes sense to use my trial for makeup and hair for my engagement photos or if the trial should be separate from that. My engagement photos will be taken in April of this year with my wedding in May of next.

I've read the trial should be the look for your wedding day so not sure if it makes sense to have the engagement hair and make up as the trial. In this instance, I wouldn't use the same look for the photos and wedding day but then I wouldn't have a trial for the day of wedding look. In which case it would be more of a trial of the makeup artists skill and whether or not I like her work. I would like to not have to spend more money then I necessary.

Any advice or suggestions appreciated!

I have my e photos on Saturday. I'm not doing my hair and make up the same as the wedding. I would switch it up if I were you. You don't want two sets of professional photos with the same look.

Agreed. Maybe get makeup done at a store where you buy a product, if you're worried doing it yourself wouldn't be good enough? I'd keep your wedding look just for the wedding though.

When I had my first hair and make up trial, I posted pics here and got "Show us the 'after' photos."

So yeah, maybe don't that Smiley smile

I wouldn't want the same look in my engagement photos and wedding pictures. But I totally get wanting to get good use from having your hair and makeup done all awesome.

I am doing my trial the morning of my bridal shower. Obviously there will be some pictures from my shower, but not a ton of professional ones like my engagement pictures

    I wouldn't do the trial for e-pictures.

I had my makeup trial for my engagement photos and I'm super happy I did. I was going to pay to get my makeup done anyway, so why not. But not the hair trial....

Your wedding is the day after mine! I plan to use my trial for our e-pics but my hair/makeup artist is close to my venue which is 2 hours from me but also the area we are doing the pics.

I'd definitely consider doing the same makeup, since I know I want similar looks, but I wouldn't want my hair the same. I guess it depends on whether you are doing hair and makeup together or by separate people.

I got my makeup professionally done for the e-shoot, but I couldn't get an appointment with the person who is doing my makeup for the wedding. I had a longtime friend who has been doing makeup for twenty years do it for me. For hair, I styled it myself, but it didn't matter b/c it was so misty that my curls feel flat. I have ZERO regrets for getting my makeup done or the e-shoot.

I would say yes for the make-up, but no to the hair. Do your hair yourself, or go to your regular hairdresser.

We just booked our engagement photo shoot, and I'm waiting to hear back from the makeup artist if she can do my trial for that morning. I'm not going to go quite as heavy on the makeup and no false lashes for the epics/trial. And I'm not getting my hair done because I want my epics to look basically how I look everyday!

Side note: My hair stylist work looks amazing, so I'm confident that I can book her. I haven't seen much work from the MUA so this trial will be more of a test of skill like you said

I am using my trial for my engagement photos. It made sense for me, because if I'm paying for a full face of makeup, why not use it for something? My hair will be completely different for the e-pics vs my actual wedding day.

You could change it up slightly by adding or removing lip color and other small tweaks.

A lot of MUA won't do that, I know mine specifically says in her contract it can't be engagement shoot
