Trial Hair and Makeup Nightmare!

SKT, on August 4, 2016 at 10:03 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I went in for my trial run last night and literally walked out the door and started bawling. The hair stylist worked with my hair for about 30 minutes and despite telling him my hair only curls with a smaller barrel he continued to curl it with a large barrel and I ultimately ended up with untamed tangles rather than soft locks. When he saw my discomfort he sent me to the makeup artist to get my makeup done and think about what I might want to change. To begin, the makeup artist was new and basically learned through youtube how to do makeup. I expressed I wanted a soft, romantic night look and I got a mix of amy winehouse and an Egyptian. Every time I tried to direct her she refused to see the issues I was seeing and I eventually gave up. So, I went back to get my hair fixed and my stylist had picked up another customer for a cut and I waited for 30 minutes before he said we were done and sent me to the cashier where I paid $130 for a trial run... My budget is already so tight and I am

Really freaking out. I cried like crazy because I already have had to cut my bridal session and many other things for the budget and now this is $130 completely wasted. I do not even want to talk to them again and now we are 2 months from the wedding and my BMs were counting on having a team and I just don't know what to do at this point.

Could you request a different artist/stylist?

My eyebrows were powdered in and have absolutely no shape and my eyes were completely toned compared to what she originally put. I told her I wanted a nude pink lip and I get some form of red? It has potential for a great "night out" but definitely not for a wedding. At least not what I am looking for. :/

Maybe you can reach out to them and ask for *at least* a partial refund. If he works for a salon, go to the owner. 2 months might be a little tight but hell, you could find a friend who does makeup better than what you're describing! That's lousy, I'm so sorry.

You look lovely! But I understand that it's not what you had in mind for your wedding. I know you don't want to talk to them, but if this is the team you want, you need to sit down and explain piece by piece what you're wanting. Did you take inspiration pictures with you? I know that helped my MUA because instead of me trying to describe it, I had actual examples.

Sorry you had a bad trial! *hugs*

I am sorry you went through that. You are a lot nicer than I am, I would have talked to the manager. Did you already sign a contract?

Get a refund. Contact the shop owner. And get a new team. Ask the girls if they have anyone they trust. And explain your situation to the new team so they can get you in for a rushed maybe discounted trial. But get yourself a refund and do not settle with them for your wedding day!!!!!

@Ali: No, luckily I waited until the trial in order to put down my deposit but I didn't even bother to do that. I was so upset I paid for the trial and left. And I am not really a confrontational individual. I know I should call because I am in the right but it drives up my stress level even more, hah!

@Onceuponachambers: You're so sweet, Thank you! The picture probably did it more justice but even the other girls in the salon had wide eyes! I even took in pictures and that didn't help by any means!

@Kate: Yeahh, I might try to do that! I'm just still in the shock of it all.

    1.) We need pictures.

2.) You absolutely cannot just "not deal with this" because you are upset. You HAVE to deal with this. If your budget is that tight- 130$ is a CHUNK- DO NOT LOSE IT.

If you are that unhappy- you need to request a RETRIAL with a different MUA and possibly a different stylist.

    GO.FIX.THIS.

    *bawling, not balling

I'm sorry you were miserable. I'd appreciate pics so we can see if there's any advice, like telling them to tone back on something, or literally demanding your money back.

I hope you are able to find someone new who does a wonderful job. I would still call the owner of the shop and try to get some of your money back.

    Hugs

At least you went through the trial versus discovering this ON your wedding day. It really does suck that you are out the $130, but you shouldn't have to pay for something you absolutely hated and it made you cry! I HATE confrontation, but maybe you need to talk to them and just voice how unhappy you were. Hopefully they can work with you. In the meantime, can you rush to find someone else? Check out their work on facebook or their webpages?

OP, if you post pics of your results and your inspiration, we can help!! We can give you the "words" to call salon back with to tell them what MUA and stylist did wrong, what they need to fix OR why they should refund your $130. Let us help you!!

Call the salon. Ask to speak to the manager. If they're not there, ask for a time when they will be and call back again.

Tell her/him exactly what you told us, how upset you are, and that you're outraged you paid $130 for that disaster. Demand either a retrial with different, more experienced stylists, or a refund. Do not back down. Do not over-explain. State your case and let it rest...don't be afraid of uncomfortable silences. Don't be taken in by their apologies or explanations - they screwed you over, and you are there to get your money back!
