Tree planting unity ceremony!

MS4, on February 26, 2015 at 3:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Has anyone planned or participated in a tree planting unity ceremony? Please share any advice you have!

We're getting married at my parents' house, so we'll be planting a tree in the ground, not a pot. The general idea is to have it mostly planted before the ceremony, so our contribution is mostly symbolic.

I think we're also going to use it as our receiving line! After the ceremony, we'll invite guests to get drinks and snacks, then come see us at the tree, toss in some dirt, and maybe get a photo with us too. I hope this will work because our guest list will be very small (50 or so) and there will be lots of other things for people to do so they don't feel like they're waiting in line. Thoughts?!

I LOVE it!!!! We're thinking about doing the tree planting as our unity ceremony too! It will have to be in a pot though, as we're getting married in a church. Smiley smile I love the idea of having guests contribute too!

I love the idea of a tree planting for the unity tradition! If we had our own place we definitely would but we plan on moving in 2 years so I wouldn't want to leave it behind. I am considering the pot maybe..but I already have a lemon tree in a pot and I don't think it's going to survive this winter.

But I LOVE your idea, I say go for it!

I thought about doing a tree planting ceremony but the logistics wouldn't have worked easily. Doing it in your parents' house eases up the logistics. My only thought is, do you have a house with your FH? I personally would prefer to plant the tree in my own backyard vs my parents' backyard. More symbolic that way. But then I would have the urge to take the tree with me if we ever moved, lol. We did a rose ceremony instead.

Instead of getting your hands & dress dirty, just water the tree (in a pot or in the ground). My couples have watered wildflower seeds, potted trees, and potted orchids.

You can blend your water (like the unity sand) into one container and use it to water the tree/plant.

Mrs. F--what's a rose ceremony? We're definitely thinking of planting another tree for us at home since my parents live all the way across the country. My mom got a little teary eyed at the idea of planting a wedding tree there, so I know it will still be meaningful even though we won't have access to it all the time Smiley smile

Nancy T--I love that idea! I will definitely make sure we have a watering can as an alternative for guests who want to participate but not get their hands dirty. What a great thought, thank you!

I'm sure your mom will love having the tree there!! Yeah, cross county would not work, lol.

I had never heard of a rose ceremony until I came across a rose ceremony vase set for sale and then I proceeded to Google and research it. We wrote ours by combining a couple different ones I came across. It fits us and our relationship really well! We exchange between us and then gave them to our MIL, respectively. It was awesome! Here is a YouTube video of one: http://youtu.be/Qbs7xCSzI1w

ETA pic of our rose ceremony where we exchanged with each of our MIL's. I made mine cry, it was sweet. The moms had no idea it was going to happen!

We are doing it Smiley smile I found the wording online, and we bought a watercan, a pot, and a trowel. We want to plant a pine tree so we can decorate it at Xmas Smiley smile

Just don't transplant a Norfolk Island pine tree outside. The 1 foot tall Christmas tree in a pot that we gave my in-laws now towers over our house. Maybe we shouldn't have planted it next to the septic tank!!!
