Tree-planting Ceremony

Chelsea, on January 19, 2021 at 9:45 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4

Hi everyone! We're getting married in a botanical garden in June. Both very outdoorsy people, we loved the idea of tree-planting ceremony. We plan on taking soil from each mother to plant around our own sweet plant!

Since we do not have a permanent residence yet (not likely to until the next 2-3 years), we are leaning more towards house plants. I've looked at Fig plants, Bamboo palms, and Parlor palms. However, I really want something with symbolism (preferable religious too).

Anyone who had a tree-planting — what plant did you choose and why?

I guess we’re not doing a tree (so unsure if this helps lol) but we’re doing a plant. Like you, we are going to take soil from my parent’s house, his parent’s house, our current place (we have an apartment together/our first place together), and maybe soil from where we first met in college (lol maybe idk if we’ll have time to go back there just for soil). We’ll sprinkle and mix it all around and hopefully that plant will be with us forever! ♥️ We are going to try a chrysanthemum plant.

We did one! We used dirt from each of our childhood homes.

We ended up with THREE different trees/plants because my husband originally purchased a random tree then found a Japanese Maple. He thought it was beautiful and some of the things it represents is abundant blessings and promises. Then we realized it was too heavy to carry to and from our venue so our coordinator had to purchase a plant for us the morning of our wedding (weirdly and luckily enough, my venue had a shop that sold plants). So we ended up using a lily (supposedly it represents fertility and devotion) for the actual ceremony, but currently have all of them in pots on our porch until we move into our new home this summer.

What about a lemon tree? If you care for them well you can keep them indoors, and then once you have a permanent residence you can replant it outside! Lemon trees are considered a symbol of longevity. 🍋 Olive trees are also a popular choice because they are a symbol of peace!

Some of the houseplants you're already looking at also have great symbolism! Bamboo embodies strength, flexibility, and renewal in Asian cultures, and Fig trees indicate faith, stability, and enlightenment. Smiley heart
