Travel week before sister’s wedding?

Anna, on April 5, 2022 at 11:03 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
My older sister’s wedding is coming up and I’m one of her bridesmaids. My husband and I have a week-long trip planned to Greece which would have us back in the US six days before her wedding. Then we’ll be home with family ready to help out and prepare for the wedding. My sister doesn’t mind our trip, but I’m worried about covid and any potential hiccups that would make me miss her wedding.
Do you think the possibility of something happening should stop us from going on our trip? Backstory: my husband is graduating medical school so this is a celebratory grad trip, and it’s also the only vacation/trip he’ll be able to take for the next 3 years as residency will be very demanding. So we’d be very sad to cancel but would also be heartbroken to miss the wedding.

Also—my husband and I are both vaccinated/boosted but still want to be cautious.

If you have 6 days between, wear a mask and frequently wash your hands for 4 days post trip. Then take a covid test. That's really the only way to do both without worry.

I think you'll be alright. 6 days is plenty of time if there's flight issues, and you should celebrate your husband's graduation while you can. If you're extremely worried about catching covid then maybe see if you can postpone the trip until after the wedding?

Since it's so hard to have time off during residency, I think you definitely should go on the trip. I would just be cautious and wear masks.

Agree with others about going ahead with your plans. You could cancel and stay home and still become infected.... You've done what you can in terms of immunizations, so follow whatever prevention guidelines you believe are wise and go have fun!

If you have your immunizations and have good practices (wear mask indoors, wash your hands frequently, carry hand sanitizer with you, spend majority of your time outside when you're exposed to others), you will probably be fine. I would go on your trip.
