Travel Agent?

Casey, on July 22, 2020 at 1:20 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7

Who's used a travel agent to help book their honeymoon? Trying to determine if it's worth the extra cost to have someone plan everything out for you.

With the Internet, I almost never use a travel agent. The only time I use a “travel agent“ is when I’m booking cruises. I guess they’re not technically a travel agent but they are an agent for the cruise line. I find it’s easier to book through them because they have certain behind-the-scenes perks. For my work travel we use an agent and, I’ll admit, it’s nice that we just give her the location and she puts it all together. Our work travel agent has also been helpful when we’ve gotten stuck due to delays, etc. We just call her and she works behind the scenes to get us a new flight. So, I see the benefit of having a travel agent. But for our honeymoon, we’re just putting it together and booking it ourselves. There won’t really be a need for us to pay a travel agent for the trip.

Our Travel agent didn’t cost a thing! She gets paid through the company that you book with, doesn’t increase the cost at all. She helped us find an amazing cabin in Gatlinburg that I wouldn’t have been able to book without her! This is the link to her Facebook page if you are interested! We plan on using her for our family trips as well! https://www.facebook.com/janambaez/

Travel Agents are sadly a dying breed but often a wealth of information. Most don't cost anything to use and are great at planning things your way. It just depends on how involved you want to be, the nice thing is they do the research for you and you just pick the final products.

I have never used a travel agent for any vacation, cruise or otherwise. We have always used Fodor's books for the location we're going to to plan everything and it's always been great.

We used a travel agent, and she didn't cost anything. Most don't, as they get paid a fee from the booking company. She was very helpful when our flight got canceled as we were driving to the airport for our honeymoon last year.

We used a travel agent to book our weddingmoon in Jamaica and it has been an absolute nightmare. I've had to follow up behind her to make sure tasks were completed, correct quotes she was giving guests and a wrong price she quoted me. Its been more of a hassle and has added to my stress level when the whole point was to decrease my stress and have our guests direct questions to her. Ive learned enough along this journey to know I will not be using another travel agent.

A real travel agent actually doesn't cost money as they get paid through the companies they help you book with (cruise lines, airlines, etc) and if someone is trying to charge you then I wouldn't work with them (maybe even attempt to warn other travelers). My family and I have used the same travel agent to book our cruises for 5+ years now and she's amazing, she can sometimes find deal that we can't find & helps us with some of the fine print or things we may miss if we book on our own. FH & I actually used her to book our honeymoon for next year. It just makes things so much easier to deal with & if something changes, she calls us right away.

If you plan on using one, do research & look into people who previously used them and be sure they're not charging you. I hate to keep repeating that, but people really don't know this & they can get in a bind they didn't want to be in.
